Birmingham Brother Rice had the ball and a 27-22 lead with under two minutes to left but managed to lose tonight, 37-27, at Farmington Hills Harrison.

Jake Vento returned a Tyler Lendzion fumble 61 yards for a touchdown with 1:48 to go and Aaron Burbridge returned a Lendzion interception 70 yards for another score with 0:40 remaining and Harrison (10-0) had won a game it appeared they had lost. And I mean it looked like they had lost, for certain.

It was one of the best games I've ever seen at any level.

Each team scored a three of their first four posessions, and Brother Rice (6-4) led 21-19 at the half.

The Hawks got a go-ahead field goal in the 3rd after an interception by Jake Vento before Lendzion capped a long Warriors drive with a 2-yard TD blast to make it 27-22 Brother Rice with 2:00 left in the 3rd.

Harrison's last chance at victory seemed to have disappeared when Tom Vento's 4th down pass from the Warriors 10 was picked off by Dillon Ervin at the three. He returned it 50 yards to the Harrison 47 with the quarterback Vento knocking him out of bounds to save the touchdown. A little more than two minutes remained, and Harrison had 2 timeouts left. On second and 7, Lendzion tried the right side on a QB keeper and appeared to have made 3 or 4 yards. The play looked completely normal until Jake Vento starting racing down the far sidelineright in front of the Brother Rice benchand went all the way untouched for a stunning TD and a 28-27 Harrison lead. Replay showed the ball coming out of the scrum before the runner was down. Vento looked down and it was right there at his feet at the 39 and he simply picked it up and started running. He was long gone before anybody, it appeared, had any idea what was happening.

Tommy Vento bulled over for the 2-point conversion to make it 30-27.

Burbridge's interception came as Brother Rice was driving for a shot at at least a game-tying field goal. They'd moved the ball to the Hawks 37 before Burbridge's Pick 6.

Unbelievable game. Harrison will be home to meet (9-1) Berkley in round two. The Bears beat the Farmington Falcons tonight 25-14 in Berkley so Farmington, 7-0 just 3 weeks ago, is done, finishing the year 7-3.

unbelievable game. This makes me think Vince is right....this team is a special team. This is what has been missing from FHH for quite awhile. These kids are extremely talented but are also total gamers that don't give up. i love watching this squad and I hope they can continue their great play.....On a side note, rice was very impressive and obviously could have won this game

Of course this would be in reference to the 2009 Grand Blanc team who I believed finished 9-0 (argument was they were playing nobodys) and got rolled in the 1st round of the playoffs.

i know. I was just kidding. However, I'm a little surprised Farmington fell off so much at the end. They were a very thin team, about 35 kids I think. Maybe that had something to do with it

Onin - great recap of the game. In my opinion, the best high school football game I've ever been to. While I wasn't even in the ballpark with my prediciton of the score, my sense of the Hawks team may be accurate. Every team needs a lucky break now and then and we certainly had one tonight.

Unbelievable play by both teams and by all accounts, I was in the stands with just under 4 mins to go thinking to myself "our season just can't end like this. Something has to happen" and the next thing I know I see Jake Vento sprinting down the far sidelines with the ball. From there, it was a bit of a blur, but just amazing play back & forth. Hard to imagine a better game taking place in the playoff's this year. Kudo's to both teams - as many have already said, it was a shame that someone had to lose this one. Both are great programs with Hall of Fame coach's. What a game!
