| There was a loud buzz going into the four Wednesday night games.......everyone expected each game to go down to the wire as all the matchups appeared even. Well, I guess some teams rise to the occassion and others simply dont. Each game was well in hand by halftime and a number of individuals stepped into the spotlight and took over games. The Knights solidified their claim as the team to beat and both the Chargers and Cowboys look playoff ready. It was also a big week for the young Sharks who not only got their first win but did so by destroying the Unknowns. With one week to go alot can happen to the seeding for the playoffs and 3 teams have a shot at the #2 seed and a first round bye.
6:00 Bristol SHARKS 39 Watertown UNKNOWNS 6
In what was dubbed to "Winless Bowl" the boys in blue came to play and the Unknowns simply showed up. Shark Captain and QB Phil Cushion made throw after throw and kept the defense fumblng over themselves with his feet. WR/CB Tommy Wu had 2 TD catches and an Interception and RB/DE Seth Wyredeck added 2 sacks and a safety as well as providing Cushion with the extra seconds he needed by making key blocks on O. With 5 TD passes on the night Cushion willed the SHARKS to there first victory 39-6. The win was enough to convince the SHARKS to throw their hat in the outdoor ring as they committed to the Spring League following the victory
Player of the Game: Phil Cushion, Sharks QB (5 TD Passes)
7:00 New Haven CHARGERS 32 Southside RAIDERS 25
This one looked like another blowout as the Chargers took a quick 13-0 lead behind QB Tim Uhl's 2 TD runs. With just 8 minutes left and the Chargers now up 26-7, the Raiders mounted their usual rally as QB Brian Chouinard scored with a 22 yd run and a 55 yd TD pass to bring the score to 26-19. The Chargers answered with a 2 play drive ending with a 54yd TD pass from Uhl to WR Troy Brown and despite another scoring scramble by Chouinard, the Chargers were able to run out the clock and walk away with their 3rd straight win. Notably missing was all-everything DE Abby Johnson, who missed the game due to work.
Player of the Game: Tim Uhl, Chargers QB (3 Passing TD's, 2 Rushing TD's)
8:00 CT COWBOYS 42 Waterbury's OLD SKOOL 7
I dont think anyone would have expected the score to look like that in the days leading up to the game, not even the Cowboys. Old Skool, again without QB Jerome Mitchell was dominated in all facets of the game and never were close in this one. The Cowboys D had 3 sacks, a safety and forced 5 interceptions led by S Frankie Ramos and DE Orin. The offense did there part as well behind Moe Ramos' 5 TD passes to 5 different receivers. With the win the Cowboys put themselves in position to claim the #2 seed with a win vs the Playmakers and a little help next week.
Player of the Game: Moe Ramos, Cowboys QB (5 TD passes)
9:00 Southington KNIGHTS 29 Naugatuck PLAYMAKERS 12
In Jim Rome's "Clash of the Titans", the Knights made sure evryone knew who was the top dog in this league. Knight QB Jon Esmail calmly executed drive after drive, often hooking up with the shifty Pito Gonzalez as the Knights surged ahead 19-6 before the Playmakers good get loose. Playmaker QB Rob Servidas did not look like an MVP Candidate, missing open WR's and often rnning for his life from a rotation of 5 or 6 Knight DE's and LB's. After a late Servidas run made it 27-12, Knight Captain Dan Patterson wasted no-time and seeled the win with a safety giving the Knights the ball back and a 3 score lead with just minutes to play. The Knights now sit atop the standings and are the clear-cut favorites going into the playoffs..........on the other hand a loss by the Playmakers could see them plummet all the way to the 4 seed and a much harder road to travel if the plan on returning to the championship game.
Player of the Game: Dan Patterson, Knights LB (2 Sacks, 1 Safety and atleast 7 flag pulls)
