| The Connecticut NIT was completed yesterday at Wilby High School. Although not all of the teams that started the event were able to return, the games went on and a Champion was crowned in drammatic fashion. We thank everyone who made the return trip to complete the tornament, your commitment and integrity are applauded. Below are the final results, standings and award winners for the event. We have tons of pictures coming soon!
NY's Main Event weathered an early barrage by the upset driven Young Gunz and managed to tie the game with 30 seconds remaining on DeeJay Johnsons 8 Yd scramble. After missing his previous ectra point attempt the Main Event kicker calmly knocked this one threw and 3 plays later the celbrating began.
The Gunz came out strong quickly scoring on a short pass to Pito Gonzalez who then pitched it to David Sanchez who broke free for the score, After an interception by Chris Lenaris (he had 3 in the game!) It was Sanchez again who took a screen 55 yds for the score and a 14-0 lead. The Main Event finally stepped it up behind Vinny Trent and John Lee-Hugh, giving the offense the oppoprtunity to get back in the game. A safety and a blocked punt doomed the Gunz and the veteran Johnson settled down and connected with Tourny MVP Mike Funaro for their first score. The Gunz offense stalled again and with under 2 minutes remaining, Johnson led a drive inside the ten before finall finding the endzone with his legs.
Great game by both teams as this was a classic battle. Good luck the rest ofd the year on the circuit and for those who missed it keep an eye out for the rematch!
