| In a game last week (5-25-11@CIT field), field umpire called a runner out stealing 3rd who was trying to avoid a tag, stating he was out of the baseline. I asked for an explanation and was told that the runner cannot go more than 18 inches on either side of the established baseline. I asked several times and the 18" was repeated to me. The rule is 3 feet on either side. I did not realize the 3 feet until after the next inning, which made it too late to protest the call. Please explain why I was given incorrect information.
