Can someone confirm that these teams have actually folded? There's been a lot of rumor and innuendo, but no official word on the MBA site. Anyone been to a league meeting lately where this was discussed? Losing the Merchants would be especially surprising, given their long history.

You will have better luck on redtube.

I heard from a Rocks Baseball player that the team was folding. The reason that was mentioned to me was that a couple key players were recruited away by other league teams. I know one of their better pitchers went to the pub. If true, that is bush league in my opinion. If teams want sustainability in this league, then they can't be losing guys to teams within their own league. Once that chip fell, as was explained to me, some other guys announced their retirement and it was proving too difficult to recruit in new talent. The big fish teams can't keep recruiting away from the little guys. The other league managers should recognize that. The Rocks were a decent team to have in the league so to learn that they will not be competing is unfortunate. Again, my condolences to a team that had been in the P-Nash for 15 years. Fortunately, five of the Rocks better players all signed with the Angels, so the orange and black should be a team to beat this year.

If there is anyone interested in starting a new team that would play in the Riverview please send a message to: bloomingtonbandits@yahoo.com

The Bandits are looking to possibly partner with a second team that would play home games at Dred Scott. The Bandits will help with scheduling and fundraising.

Thanks,

Mike

Teams recruiting players from other teams is nothing new, it happens every season and in every league. It's too bad that the P-Nash lost a solid squad in the Rocks, but blaming it on the loss of a couple key players makes it seem like this was bound to happen anyway. Hopefully all those guys find new clubs and keep playing ball.

Couldn't have said it better.

One player doesn't sink a ship, it is already sinking.

There is movement every year...and people retire. It's part of the gig.

Maybe the Pub were offering a multi-year contract, with a personal hotel suite on all road trips.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the current team have to release the player first in order for him to 'sign' with a new team?

Yes, a player can only sign with one team...so he would need to be released before he signs the new contract. The contract must be signed before they play with the new team...or so the rules say.

In the case of a team folding no release form is needed.

old Rocks player/coach....and/or P-Nash Member, whatever you would like to be called. It is sad that you would blame your team folding on the Pub. there was no recruiting, the guy just wanted off the best P-Nash boot hockey team (and team website) and on to the Pub. why? because we get after it on the field and enjoy ourselves off the field - and we have been doing that for 40 years! same family - 40 years...
Rocks had 6 months to find 1-3 players to make up for your losses (retired guys, etc.). But you were unable to do it and tired of dealing with the BS that comes along with managing. Actually the commissioner has emailed managers the names and numbers of multiple players looking for teams to play on - so the opportunities were there, to folla roster - but the Rocks decided to fold. and then blame it on others.
this is not high school baseball. I have players leave my team every year - some stay in the League, some leave to other teams in other leagues. this has never stopped me from replacing those guys, filling a roster and being competitive.
as for the release - it would have been needed had the Rocks remained. But since they folded, there are 5 guys on the Angels, 1 on the Cobras and 2 on the Pub that dont need to be released.
I am glad the Rocks players that remained have found a place to play...

Say goodbye to the Austin Redlegs in the Riverview as well.

Riverview is now down to 7 teams? This is becoming a rough year in A ball.

Also, just because the Pub got two guys from the Rocks doesn't mean they did anything wrong. I also don't believe that a team would not grant a player that no longer wants to play with/for them a release so they could sign with another team. Guys want to play on good teams. The Pub has a long tradition of being a top end club so nothing wrong with wanting to play for them and take an opportunity to move on to their squad.

Good luck to the Lyons Pub and good luck to the former Rocks players that have moved on to other teams.
