Eagles 32 vs. Gang Green 12  This was definitely a good showing for the Eagles. They had some new faces on their team who looked pretty good. QB Brian Gelsomino threw for 191 Yards and 3 Touchdowns and also ran for 82 Yards. Marcus Mccray put on a show with 67 Rushing Yards and 2 Rushing TDs, and also 45 Receiving Yards with another TD. June Caraballo led the way on defense with 2 sacks for the Eagles. It was a tough first game for Gang Green but I will say I have seen new teams come in and look completely overwhelmed in their first game. Although they didn’t produce a win, they hung in there and played pretty solid. QB Ryan McFarlin passed for 131 Yards and a TD and also ran for 48 Yards and a TD. RJ Yeske had 71 Receiving Yards and a TD as well. For the Eagles this was a good start up game for a team looking to gel, and for Gang Green we will see if this will be a game that helps them, or buries them.  Player of the Game- Marcus McCray- 67 Rushing Yards, 2 TD, 45 Receiving Yards, TD, 4 Flag Grabs   Vikings 26 vs. Oilers 13
The Vikings showed up with about 15 new faces. It looks like Dwayne Perry went out and recruited some young bodies to fill his roster. From the familiar faces QB Scott Dolch came in and played very well. He passed for 102 Yards and 4 TDs.  He spread the ball out very well to his players with 4 different Receivers scoring a TD for the Vikings. Their defense was stellar as well, with Cambery Brown and Junior Haslem each having 3 Flag Grabs, and 2 Sacks a piece. The Oilers also had a new face at QB in Joe Turbessi. It was tough to tell how much potential he has in this league due to the conditions being at its worst in this game, but he passed for 113 Yards and 2 TDs. LorenZO Gilliam had 69 receiving yards and 2 TDs in the game. Michael Jiminez led the way on defense with 2 Sacks. The Vikings came to play and put up points in bunches like they usually do. The Oilers defense is their strength, giving up 26 points in the rain isn’t something you would expect to see. They certainly need to improve on that to compete in the CFFL this Spring.  Player of the Game- Scott Dolch- 102 Passing Yards, 4 TD   Game of the Week- Young Gunz 26 vs. Knights 25
It always seems like these two teams battle it out in close games that come down to the wire. This was no exception as the Gunz and Knights added another one to their rivalry. Chris Roberts led the way for the Gunz with 268 Passing Yards and 3 TDs.  David Sanchez had a good day offensively with 48 Yards and a TD and newly acquired tight end Anrea Fevier had a long TD reception as well. He finished with 70 Yards and a TD. The Knights definitely hung in there throughout this game and should not be ashamed to take this loss. QB Scott Bard passed for 222 Yards and 4 TDs. Gary Coles had a great day in his debut performance with 101 Receiving Yards and a TD. Kelvin Riddle and Dan Patterson each had 4 Flag Grabs and a Sack a piece for the Knights defense. The Young Gunz came out like promised fully loaded with all their talent in uniform Sunday. They battled a great team and came away with a victory. They showed why they are favorites year in and year out. The Knights can’t hang their heads after 1 loss. They showed they can hang with the best, and should be a force this entire spring season.  Player of the Game- Chris Roberts- 268 Passing Yards, 3 TD   Bearcats 32 vs. Havoc 8
This was scheduled to be another premiere game this week but ended up in a blowout. QB Josh Spence passed for 173 Yards and 2 TDs in this one but the defense was the story. The Bearcats defense recorded 3 interceptions for touchdowns in this one. Newly acquired WR/DB Dawud Hanif had a pivotal pick 6 for the Bearcats to put this game out of reach. Cory Ferguson also recorded 4 Flag Grabs and a Sack for the Bearcats. Tim Mason had a big day as well, he recorded 2 Interceptions and also a TD reception. Havoc looked to be a team in search of a new identity. Their powerful run game was no more, Reggie Woodard was airing it out and passing to the wrong team. He threw for 144 Yards and a TD, but his 5 Interceptions hurt any chance Havoc had of a comeback. The Bearcats defense looks very improved, their rush was a factor all game. Havoc needs to decide whether to keep Woodard back there, or go back to the ground and pound style we are used to.  Player of the Game- Tim Mason- 2 Interceptions, 1 Receiving TD   Assassins 7 vs. Bulldogs 10
In the Bulldogs second game of the day they squared off with the new look Assassins. The Bulldogs seemed a bit wore down in this one but managed to escape with a 3 point victory. QB Mike Cervizzi passed for 180 Yards and a TD. With top target Tyrece Nickson bogged down a bit, Calvin Harris stepped up with 7 Catches for 118 Yards. He was unstoppable for the Bulldogs Sunday and was a huge reason why they escaped with a victory. Joe Muzz kicked the game winning field goal for the Bulldogs as well. The Assassins definitely came to play. There was questions on their defensive side but against a high powered attack like the Bulldogs have, 10 points is something to be proud of. New QB Troy Brown was efficient going 8 for 12 and 156 Yards, but an interception was costly and their inability to sustain drives that ended up points was their downfall. Brown also ran their only score in. Anthony “MMA” had a huge day with 5 flags and 4 sacks.  Player of the Game- Calvin Harris- 7 Receptions, 118 Yards   Beach Raiders vs. Hit Squad  The question has officially been answered. Jamie “Rocket” Bryant IS the QB for the Hit Squad. This is a pretty big pickup for a team who needed some guidance and a championship caliber QB. Rocket passed for 2 TDs for 71 Passing Yards and had 90 rushing yards. He ran for an amazing touchdown weaving through the Raiders defense as only Rocket can do, hit the sideline and was gone. Jon Green had 53 Receiving Yards and a TD for the Hit Squad. Their defense was stingy but did give up 15 points to a team who probably shouldn’t score 15 on them. That will have to be fixed down the road. The Raiders did battle in this one. They proved that they can score on a very strong defense. Terry Scruse passed for 144 Yards and a TD. His 2 interceptions were at costly moment in this game though. The Raiders are a solid team, they looked better than what was expected, but just couldn’t pull out a victory in this one.  Player of the Game- Jamie “Rocket” Bryant- 71 Passing Yards, 2 TD, 90 Rushing Yards, TD   Bulldogs 24 vs. Cowboys 6
This was supposed to be a game that could have been on upset alert with the upstart Cowboys facing a team in a double header day. The Bulldogs showed that they are in a higher class than the Cowboys on Sunday. Mike Cervizzi passed for 132 Yards and 2 TDs and WRs Calvin Harris and David Correa both scored TDs for the Dogs. Tyrece Nickson also had 70 Receiving yards. Jeff Berrea had an interception on defense as well. The Cowboys just couldn’t get going in this one. Jose “Gor” Rosario passed for 90 Yards and a TD and Joe Rivera had 34 Yards receiving and a TD. Cleveland Patterson had 2 Flag Grabs and an Interception for the Cowboys. The Bulldogs came out in week in of the CFFL and faced 2 underdog and underrated teams and disposed of each one and left with 2 victories. It was a good start from this team from Willamantic.  Player of the Game- Mike Cervezzi- 132 Passing Yards, 2 TDs   Franchise 20 vs. Gators 0
Franchise came out and did to a new team what you are supposed to be. Introduce them to the league with a nice Loss. That’s exactly what happened in this one as the Franchise and their newly acquired talent all came together for a nice win. QB Mike Calavito passed for 47 Yards and a TD. Jose “Maddog” Ramos ran for 158 Yards and a TD and also caught a 3 Yard TD pass from Calavito. There was only 6 total completions through the air, but Franchise pounded the ball on the ground and it was very effective the entire game. Juan “Carlito” Colon had 2 Sacks for Franchise and Joe Degrot recorded 3 Flag Grabs and 2 Interceptions in this game. It wasn’t a pretty showing for the Gators. QB Drew Allen threw 3 costly interceptions that helped Franchise run away with this one. The Gators will have to pick it up if they want to contend in this league. They have a lot of talent on their roster but it just didn’t seem like a team who was ready to compete as this level. This was a good start for Team Franchise out of the gates. They came out with a nice win to start the year.
Player of the Game- Jose “Maddog” Ramos- 158 Rushing Yards, 1 TD, Receiving TD |
