| Was in Hustisford this past weekend and one of the guys there was talking about the Rock bosses pushing to get lakes teams to come over to us. I think this idea is horrible, especially the teams being talked about. Monches and North Lake can't even compete in lakes and while West Bend is good, they are jerks. I think we should adopt a policy saying only expansion teams or at least ones who can help build our league. I urge you all to say no to these rumors.

| What point does this serve? We are a growing league, and need good teams to continue to make us the premiere league. The more the merrier. How do we know that these Lakes teams won't be good when they aren't restricted by Lakes 10 mile handcuff? And I agree about West Bend if we are talking about the Benders. We would be stupid not to want 7UP.

| Nope talking about 7up. They would be poison for us. They wouldn't finish .500 in either league yet they act like they are better then all of us.

| Why are looking for more teams? We don't need to pluck from other leagues. Let's try to get Juneau and mayville back first.

| Let's face it schwarzy, Schultz, and Marvin have always had a thing for wanting West Bend, Monches, and Oconomowoc for their ball fields alone. Whether or not the teams listed would fit or even be interested is another story.

| This conversation raises two questions in my mind: First, what’s wrong with the way we currently consider new members? When either an existing team from another league or a new team being formed gets to the point where they want to make formal application to the league, a presentation is made to the existing league managers and they are the people who vote whether to allow the team into the league. Decisions are made on a team-by –team basis. When the Raptors came into the Rock we were coming from the Madison senior league. That’s certainly not as competitive a league as, say, Home Talent or the Lakes. Yet we’ve been able to compete at a high level in the Rock these past two years. Point is, you have to make these decisions on a team-by –team basis. And you can’t do that until someone is standing up in front of our group with a formal proposal.
The second question I have is what’s wrong with promoting our league to outside teams with the hope of growing it? I’m all the time talking to guys who play on Home Talent teams in our area and telling them why I think the Rock is better and that they should consider switching leagues. There are a lot of advantages to growing the league. For instance, if we ever got to 24 teams with three eight-team divisions, there would be some great advantages in terms of geography, scheduling and playoff options. Just in the last three years the Rock has added Milton, the Rockers, the Devil Dogs, Helenville and Janesville. Milton and the Rockers have each reached the post-season and I expect Janesville to be very competitive this year. You can’t argue the league would have been better off had it not added theses teams. And, quite frankly, I'd be disappointed if our president and board members weren't out there promoting the league in hopes of growing the organization. When I first started talking to Carl about the possibility of joining the Rock, he went out of his way to come to our senior league championship game to check us out. Sure, there was dollar beer there at the Fort park, but I gained tremendous respect for the Rock and Carl when he did that.
Sure, it’d be great to have Mayville and Juneau return to the league. But in the meantime, we can’t sit on our hands and simply hope for that to happen. Nor should we consider changing the current rules for adding teams – rules that appear to be working – based on some rumors heard in Hustisford..

| Could not have said it any better myself Doug!!
As Doug eluded too...new teams are voted into the league by the representatives/managers of each team currently in the league, not by Carl, Bob, etc. If a new team happens to be accepted into the league it is only because the majority of teams currently in the league thought it would be acceptable.
In addition, I don't think a lot of people realize what restrictions the 10 mile radius puts on teams in the Lakes from a competitive standpoint, especially some of the teams in question above (Monches, North Lake, Merton, Hartland). Take a look at a map once, there is a reason why some of these teams struggle to be competitive given how much their areas for players overlap. In my opinion if the Rock had thsese roster guidelines we would 1) rarely be taking on new teams and 2)would see our league dropping teams instead of adding them.

| I can honestly say that Bob Schultz and Carl Schwarzy have screamed it for years their special love spot for West Bend and Monches. It's quite sickening actually. They play in a different league. Let them play by archaic rules.

| This still does nothing for the lusting over teams publicly. I get about the expansion process and how it works, but it still doesn't stop our leaders from going out and talking up or about the teams rumored. I get it, the Lakes West is the quote on quote best division in the state, laughable, but I get it. We should not be bending over and grabbing our ankles every time West Bend or one of these joke teams gets mentioned. It is frustrating to me to see all these North teams curtsy at the sight of West Bend. Marvin at Rubicon would have all our heads if given the chance to squash us any given week, but they sit there and try to pressure us at the great mighty West Bend. Sorry no.

| What is wrong with having to many good teams? And what is wrong with having to many good leagues? I don't understand why we are always so quick to bash the Lakes just because they aren't the Rock. We play some of these guys in Tri-County and they all seem like really well run clubs and for the most part all seem like really good people. And the hatred for West Bend is clear from Rocket 12. I don't think either of us really have enough to go on to determine if they would be good for our league yet, if they are even interested. But I can say from the Tri-County meetings they usually have their shit together.
If anybody from Lakes would be interested in the Rock, we would be stupid not to listen. I have a little bit more respect for leagues like Home Talent and Land of Lakes but then most. But if a team like West Bend or Monches wanted to be in the Rock someday, then we would have to be dumb not to consider them.

| How about if we adopt a new policy that states "No more lusting in public!"?

| I am thoroughly irritated reading this forum. On a phone call today I was alerted about this and here I am to have to clear it up. I can't speak for Pat Smith, Jake Calmes, or Jeff Rhodes but we have never once searched out a move and we are very happy with Lakes. We enjoy our Tri-County experience and we genuinely enjoy the teams and organizations in which we play against.

I'm not even sure what this means, but it sure did make me laugh.

| I live in Hustisford and am a member of the Rock River Baseball League's Executive Committee. I have never ever heard the individuals that you list "lusting after teams in public" or private. While you are welcome to your opinion, please make it an informed one.

| I agree with J. Ziegler that our league should be open to listening if teams from other leagues are interested in joining. If they make a compelling case and it makes sense, we would be stupid not to welcome them in with open arms.
By the way, for all who have asked - it is not me who is posting this craziness...
