| WARRIORS 7 SPARTANS 6
The grind-it-out game of the year featured two teams that love to control the clock and establish the run. With captain Chase "Moose" Mayossuer under center for the 2nd straight week the Warriors struck first when a long run by RB Savino Melluzzo got them inside the 10 and Moose did the rest by barreling through the middle of the Spartans defense for the score. Solid defense by the Warriors helped them maintain the 7-0 lead through the 2nd half before the Spartans offense finally started to move. QB Phil Cushon used the short game and a few runs before connecting with #10 "Hack" for the score. Extra point failed and the Warriors led 7-6. Despite intercepting Moose on the next possession, the Spartans offense stalled again as they struggled to control the Warriors "gremlins" up front
TIG OLE BITTIES 28 KILLA HILL 0
A game that featured the introduction of the well hyped KILLA HILL squad got the fans out early to see what all the fuss was about..........and many of them wished they slept in instead. Killa Hill had a solid 25 guys, in matching uniform and ran an organized pregame warmup that was by far the most impressive aspect of the team because once the whistle blew it was clear they weren't in Kansas (New Britain) anymore. The veteran TOB and their savy QB Kerry Palmer shredded the Hill defense threw the air as they quickly jumped out to a 15-0 lead. After a long TD run by Hill QB Kerwin "Coon" Roman was called back by a very, very questionable stiff arm to the face call, the TOB defense held again giving Palmer the ball back and he connected with a perfect strike on a wheel routeto John Kaczka for 65 yards that set up another score. Palmer finished with 4 TD passes and defensive end James Blanchette recorded 4 sacks to pace the Bitties defense.
CANES 20 BRASS HORSE SAINTS 18
Many subplots highlighted this game between familiar foes. The Saints looked to rebound after a sloppy loss to the mighty Steelers but ran into an equally talented Canes team looking to prove a point. The Canes, behind QB Moe Ramos were quick to get on the scoreboard and quickly went up 14-0. For the Saints, QB Rob Saunders decided to play despite broken bones in his foot and settled his team down with a scoring drive before the half. After the Canes scored on a Justin Walters interceptions that he pitched to Reggie Hunter for the score and a 20-6 lead, Saunders again brought the Saints back to 20-12 with a long drive ending in a 3 yard td pass. Saunders and the Saints would get the ball one last time and after scoring yet again were forced to go for 2 to attempt the tie, but a sack by DE Rodney Davis ended the game.
CHARGERS 40 KILLA HILL 0
What started out as a bad day for Killa Hill got a whole lot worse when they met a Charger team looking to shake off a poor showing on opening day. The Chargers were armed with there Travel QB, Millicent Olawale and all of their weapons were at his disposal. WR/RB Rick Kirkland took a pitch and scampered 70 yards for the first score and that opened the floodgates, Kirkland then caught a 60 yard bomb and Pat Hussey caught the final 4 TD's in row out jumping 3 defenders on his final TD. The Chargers defense was just as good as they tallied 7 sacks, 4 by DE Joe Lane and Hussey added an interception from his safety position. Killa Hill will need to go back to the chalk board and practice field to get ready for this weeks matchup with the Steelers.
STEELERS 20 BRONCOS 6
We all were looking forward to a matchup between the Steelers and the beefed up Broncos but it turned out to be a 10-man show for the new squad. The Steelers didnt waste much time as QB Jaime Bryant hit a leaping Darnell Simpson for a long TD then found B-Mac for another score and a 14-0 lead. The Broncos hung tough and stopped them on their next 2 possessions and in the 2nd half, closed the gap to 14-6 on a Sean Walton to Tony Morales score. DE Steve Kelly did his best to keep the Broncos within striking distance as he recorded 3 sacks in the 2nd half, but after getting the ball back deep in their own territory Broncos QB Walton missed badly and was intercepted for a TD that essentially sealed the win for the Steelers.
HAWKS 33 BELL CITY CHIEFS 0
Well it looks like the Chiefs didnt take advantage of the off week .......although they found a few solid lineman they still played about as disorganized and undisciplined a game of flag as you can imagine. The Hawks deadly combo of QB Dave Godek to Stevie Dunbar was back at it as Dunbar reeled in 3 more TD's to bring his league leading total to 5. Just in case you thought Dunbar was a one-dimensional player, he made a circus catch on a Bell City pass and took the interception 50 yards the other way for his fourth score of the game. Although another game without a bright spot for Bell City, the team has many of the pieces needed to compete in the league talent wise but must put in the work between games if they plan on making it out of the GCFFA basement
