| Guys i wanted to start a thread that was serious in nature and that covered this leagues most cruical problems.
First the American this year has been a disaster, from umpires walking off the field to coaches, players, fans, mascots what have you, fighting about every pitch and call. We all know each other on this board we are either friends, teammates, or so on. Some of us like each other and some dont but this thread is and should change the way this league is played. As we have all discussed either on this board or in person at the field we need to go to PLATE and MAT and LEAGUE SUPPLIED STOCK BATS. This would accomplish the following. With PLATE and MAT you now take the heat off the umpire since they would only now have to call height and bases. This would cut down on the BS, speed up the play of games, bring defense back to the game, and protect the pitcher. You would now generate closer games and more competitive games you would be able to shoot middle with no worries and you defense would now play a cruical role in the outcome. Going to LEAGUE SUPPLIED BATS would also benefit, Andy would have to reach out to all coaches/sponsors let them know his plan and come up with cost. Of course if this is done league cost is going to go up, but keep in mind when buying in bulk from bat reps you get discounts especially when they know there product is going to be used by and entire league. If the cost goes up 50 bucks or so for league fee, so be it. There are enough fantastic sponors and coaches that will jump on board if not all. Anytime you are protecting the integrity of the league and safety of its players this is a no-brainer everyone would be on board. Especially when you are evenining the playing field. 3 League supplied bats would be placed behind home plate each game a 26, 27 and 28 oz and used by every one. Then you have the mat and plate as a strike, very simple. If the ball hits the mat it's a strike, if the ball hits the plate its a strike. Faster game play and better games, end of story. Hopefully Andy gets wind of this thread becasue I know Andy, he is a good guy and a great director, if he feels teams are on board he will go with it. Guys with the regular season coming to and end and the playoffs starting talk to the guys on your team about this and more importaint you coach or money man. Look to hear from you guys soon.

The lower leagues are just fine no complaining every game is competitive! You allstars stay up there in your 3 team american league...and don't think about moving down and destroying the other leagues!!! Oh and the guys that ump are games are awesome and do a fantastic job!!!

| All kidding aside M, the talent gap between the leagues is too great.. Over a 20 year period i have watched league after league disappear because, when a league dwindles down the couple teams drop down and destroy the next league....Unfornatly, there are not enough young players and the ones that are out there just don't care about softball, it's just to get out of the house during the week....it's a shame but it's what softball has become....
this is not what u want to hear but the only way to keep the leagues living is to only allow 2 american league players to a team...will it spurt growth NO, but it will slow down the decline of the leagues...
Again changing bats and balls will do nothing with the talent gap being so great!
