| Hi Guys,
Have any of you had any issues with sub-par umpires yet? I ask this because all four umpires we had for our first four games have all been very very bad. Its a shame too because in all other regards, this league has been top notch. Before I go on, please know that I am not the type to complain about umpires & never would I blame the outcome of a game on umpires. I believe a team wins & loses on their own accord, not because of poor umpiring... but... there also comes a time after one too many obvious blown calls when you just feel that something must be done to preserve the integrity of the game & ensure that both teams are treated equally. I can say with utmost honesty that the lackluster performance of the umpires had a direct & absolute impact on the outcome of our games. The most notable shortfall was the home plate umpire's failure to establish a fair & balanced strike zone & the gross inconsistency used in calling balls & strikes equally for both teams. There were several occasions when the base path umpire provided wrong information to base runners ie. - "2 OUTS, FULL COUNT" when actually the count was only 2-2 & well you know how the rest goes! This again leading to a few gift-outs for the other team. On other occasions, the umpires made little to no effort in positioning themselves in the correct position to make the right call on an important & significant play. Perhaps not a violation but odd nonetheless... the umpires this past weekend seemed to have a very "cozy" & "comfortable" relationship with the players on the other team... this was obvious by the first name basis they used to "chit-chat & BS" between pitches. I simply cannot stress to you enough just how poor these umpires were. Everyone is entitled to an off day here and there but this went beyond having an "off day" & seemed more like a blatant slap in the face. Look guys... you have lousy umpires, you have terrible umpires, hell... you even get stuck with HORRIFIC umpires... and well, then you have the two guys who umpired our games on Sunday. YES, that's how bad they were! I'm sorry but at $130 per umpire, there simply must be some accountability for this substandard officiating. They stole $$ umpiring our games... I actually think they'd admit it... if only someone could actually call them on it & question their ability or perhaps more important still... question their integrity to call a fair & impartial game. I know I laid it out there thick but there simply was no other way to say it... I don't want any of the other teams in this league to go through what we went through. Please check in & let us know your thoughts on the umpires thus far. I truly hope this was only an isolated incident & not the norm throughout the rest of the league.
