Suggested Changes:

SECTION 1 UMPIRES
A. The president shall be in charge of the umpires and shall have full authority in the assignment of the umpires to
all league games except the playoff and Grand Championship games. (look into wording for the future of possible umpire coordinator, responsible just for assigning umpires)
B. The president shall send out the umpire assignments to the league managers for their home games in advance. (President should notify teams of umpire assignments at least one month before their scheduled home games and notify teams of any changes by the Thursday before. Again consideration of wording for possible umpire coordinator position.)
C. Umpires must be paid immediately after each game unless the game is protested.
D. Umpires shall receive $110.00 total per game ($55.00 each). *2001, 2002, 2003. (2012 – Umpires shall receive $150.00 total per game ($75.00 each).
E. When umpires travel to a game and it is not a legal game, they shall be paid a total of $20.00 for travel ($10.00 each).
F. Umpires in playoff and Grand Championship games shall receive the normal regular season rates.
G. The umpire in chief shall allow a ½ hour grace period before declaring a forfeit victory for the team present, unless he is officially notified prior to that time that the forfeiting team will not be present.
H. The umpires must wait a ½ hour in case of rain after said game has started before calling the game unless both teams agree mutually for game to be called.
I. There shall be no harassment by any player, manager or coach after the game. If an umpire remains on the scene after receiving his pay, he shall do so at his own risk. Any harassment before the umpires have been paid shall give the umpires grounds to recommend suspensions.

Reasons for changes:

A. The committee discussed the possibility in the future of the league having an umpire coordinator to assign the umpires, this could be the President as well or it could be someone else that is associated with the league (perhaps an umpire). This could also be an outside source. It is simply wording to not put any future Presidents in charge of this automatically. This person would be compensated for this duty, this is the part of the by-laws the committee didn't get to yet to address duties.

B. Right now as it currently stands notification is given of umpires sporadically. Sometimes you are aware of umpires two months in advance, sometimes two days, and other times you aren't sure who is showing up at all. Trying to find a reasonable time frame to notify umpires and teams of their assignments with leeway for things that come up and possibly may change umpire assignemts. Again wording in this of possible umpire coordinator.

D. Update on amount of payment.

H. Adding in wording to not delay the inevitable if the teams know the game is not going to be able to continue.
