As the Spring 2015 Season is now officially over for all Holbrook LL teams, I'd like to offer some reflection and perspective on what our 10yr old All-Star Team just accomplished:
* Our boys started the District 18 10yr old Tournament on 6/28 with an 8-6 win over Jackson LL.
* They went 7-0 in Districts, 3-0 in Sections, 3-0 in States.
* They arrived in Rhode Island on August 7th for the Mid-Atlantic Tournament, 13-0 through 6 weeks of play, 8 weeks if you count the start of practices.
* They went 3-1 in the Mid-Atlantic Tournament pool play and avenged that one loss in the Championship Game against Maryland, scoring 5 runs to overcome a 9-5 deficit in their last at-bat, and then holding on to the 10-9 win by striking out the last 2 batters with the bases loaded!!
* In the overall EASTERN REGION CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, they held 2-0, 4-0, 5-1 and 5-3 leads. In the bottom of the 5th, New Hampshire loaded the bases with 2 outs and a double in the gap to right center tied the score easily. With the go ahead run racing around the bases from first, two relays from our outfield-infield - catcher were executed to perfection as the runner barely slid home safely under the tag to make it 6-5 and the eventual final score.
* 9 weeks as a team, overall 16-2 record, (Keep in mind that 18 games is an entire Holbrook Major League season!!)
And they came THISCLOSE to being the last team standing.
New Hampshire is lucky it wasnt a double-elimination Championship!!
* In that 9 week run they became the:
District 18, Section 3, NJ State and Mid-Atlantic Region Champions!!
* That is THE #1 Team from New York, New Jersey, Pennslyvania, Maryland & Delaware!!
NUMBER 1 from over 1,000 Little League teams.
* As EASTERN REGION RUNNER-UPS with the tough 6-5 loss on Saturday, they are the NUMBER 2 Team among the 5 Mid-Atlantic states listed above PLUS the 5 New England states of Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and the ultimate winners from New Hampshire. NUMBER 2 out of 10 states and almost 2,000 leagues!! Not too shabby!!
* They are the FIRST & ONLY Team from Holbrook LL in our 53 year History to become MID-ATLANTIC CHAMPIONS for a team on a 46/60 field ("Little League" 12yr olds and younger). As well as the only team from Jackson NJ, in either Little League to accomplish that feat in the combined 109 yrs that Jackson and Holbrook Little Leagues have been in existence!! ...WOW!!
* Since the 10yr olds do not advance past the EASTERN REGION, this was in a sense their "WORLD SERIES".
* Had they been 12yr olds and won the MID-ATLANTIC CHAMPIONSHIP, they would be on their way to WILLIAMSPORT for the LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES!!
* These boys have made a name for themselves in the Northeast and will be a force to reckon with as 12 yr olds as they seek a trip to Williamsport. But NO PRESSURE....
