Minutes from the March 2 ,2020 meeting and old business updates
The Spring 2020 season will kick off with opening day games on April 18th, however there have been some changes. Friday, April 17th kids will gather at 5:30 p.m. with their teams for the parade to begin about 6:15. We are still joining forces with the little league but there will not be any banners this year. After the parade there will be a bar-b-que with a free hot dog or burger for each player and there will be concessions of food and drinks for sale for the parents and siblings. Afterwards there will be a movie and popcorn on a large screen for all to enjoy.
Saturday, April 18th will be the games at times to be announced. We are planning on having a photographer there that day at the games in lieu of a separate designated picture day that is hard to get people to show up for.
We must have the final late registrations in and completed before the Skylands league meeting on Sunday, March 8th as the final rosters are due.
Apparel information was updated by Gina. Everything is moving along well and handouts to purchase league apparel and merchandise will be available at the upcoming training sessions. We are hoping to have orders submitted by the end of March. The new logo has been incorporated and is pictured in the flyers.
The training for the 3rd thru 8th graders which will be provided by Champion’s Way located at Skylands Stadium 94 Championship Place Augusta, NJ on Sundays in March will be split up into smaller groups to accommodate the number of girls registered as well as the wide age ranges. For this first week only, Sunday March 8th the training is broken down as follows - 5th/6th GRADE 12:00-1:00 - 3rd/4th GRADE 1:00-2:00 - 7th/8th GRADE 2:00-3:00 Starting next week on March 15th it will be.. 3rd/4th GRADE 12:00-1:00 - 5th/6th GRADE 1:00-2:00 - 7th/8th GRADE 2:00-3:00 and will remain that way through the end of the sessions. The girls should wear either softball pants or comfortable pants, a t-shirt and sneakers. Don't forget to bring WATER!!
Registration fees for those who have not paid yet will be collected at the training sessions. Please bring that with you and hand it in then.
Still looking for volunteers to assist setting up the nets at the cages. We are just waiting a bit longer for the weather to become nicer and a date will be set.
Treasurer report was given by Karen Roccisano. We recently paid $114.00 for the annual bill for the P.O. Box and $18.17 for Go Daddy web cost. Next, we will be depositing all the registration money both from the on-line collection and the in-person collection and the next upcoming expense will be uniforms, insurance, league fees and then the umpire fees. We presently have $292.08.
Coaches are asked to verify their team’s shirt sizes because there was a small glitch early on in the registration process where the youth sizes were not showing up as a choice. If any of the smaller girls want a youth size please let Gian know as soon as possible.
Joe Roccisano brought to our attention that the Franklin DPW is currently filling in low spots in the Pond field with dirt and grass seed but that it is ok to step in those areas while practicing. If the infield is too wet it will become very mushy and should not be used as it will be covered with deep foot impressions. It is however, ok to use when slightly wet as it actually performs better when it is not overly dry.
The Littell Center has been sold to a new owner however we are still permitted to use it through the end of the contracted time. Kevin Sweetman was able to work with Becky and the Little League to obtain some indoor time for softball. Last Friday was the first pitcher and catcher practice and about 17 girls attended. There will be 4 more of those scheduled for Saturdays in March from 8-10 at the Littell Center. Kevin has already sent out an email and asked for those planning on attending to let him know, also if you did not get that email please reach out to be added to the list.
Kevin was also able to get us April 5th and 19th from 4-8 and basketball gave us March 14 from 1-4 and those slots will be split up between teams for team practices assuming we cannot use they fields for weather related issues.
The Hardyston fields officially open on April 15th and the rest are all usually cleared around the same time base upon weather.
We had 90 Girls registered as of the meeting but had more say they were planning to register.
If any coaches have to be finger printed or need their expired fingerprints renewed there will be a form on our website to be printed and you can schedule the appointment.
Some fundraising ideas are being considered and one possibility would be a bake sale which usually proves to be profitable. If you have ideas and/or would like to help out please contact Salena Abbott, Justin Juba or Bobbie Formica.
The next meeting is currently set for Thursday, April 9th at 7:30 art the Littell Center which will be confirmed as it gets closer.
