I have probably lost my mind this weekend, but I am going to try to get out and see 8 or 9 OSBA teams in action. Unfortunately I won't be able to see the Clarington Cubs and I wasn't at last night's Martingrove game although I do have a report on it.

Thursdays Games

Port Hope 2 Martingrove 1

This game was a classic pitcher's duel between Luke Kirkey of the Flyers and Darir Camaal of the Sox. Both went the full 7 innings.

Griffin Judson lined a home run in the top of the 7th to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead. Jesse Silligmann led off the bottom of the 7th by hitting a triple and the tying run was 90 feet away with no one out. Kirkey then proceeded to strike out the next three batters (his 8th, 9th, and 10th of the game) to preserve the Port Hope victory.

With the win, the Flyers improved to 5-10-1 on the season. Hunter Baker (.437 average with 2 home runs and 9 RBI) and Brendan Tink (.414 average, 9 RBI, and .585 on base percentage) have been their offensive leaders thus far in 2025. Anyone who picked the Flyers in the OSBA Aces home run pool has got to be happy with their choice as the team has clubbed 7 round trippers thus far. Tink and Kirkey have anchored the pitching staff.

For the Sox, they have shown great improvement this year, already winning 2 more games than they did all of last season. Three of their recent losses have also been very close.

Improved pitching depth has helped and Rory Burke is 4-2 with 34 strikeouts.

Their team batting average has increased from .233 last year to .269 this year. Newcomers Jesse Silligmann (.294 average 1 HR 9 RBI) and Eddy Lora (.562 average) have led the way, with veterans Burke and Scott Buck also having solid first halves.

York 10 Markham 0

Before a crowd of 8 people and 1 dog, on a beautiful night at Keelesdale Park, York jumped out to 6-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to victory. Kevin Horton allowed only 1 hit while striking out 9. Newcomer Jordan Birfir settled down after a rough first inning to go the distance for the Mariners.

Varun Krishnammagaru has 2 hits for the Diamonds and Blake Cross drove in 4 runs.

The Mariners have had a tough first half but head coach Tim Mark continued to be a positive and encouraging presence for his young squad. Mark, along with Konor Kavanagh have paced the offensive attack.

The Diamonds have caught fire after a 1-3 start and their current 10-4 record equals their win total from last season. The pitching staff has gotten contributions from a number of players with Horton 4-0 1.00 ERA 21 Ks in 21 innings and Jesse Dinsmore (2.04 ERA) leading the way.

Offensively, York has gotten much greater contributions throughout the lineup. Different guys have contributed on different days with Varun Krishnammagaru (.556 average) and Alex Beauvais (.437 average) being two of the key hitters.

Up next - Martingrove at Vaughan on Friday night.
