| After a lovely 65 minute drive to Port Hope, noon baseball was upon us as the Flyers hosted the York Diamonds.
Both teams were greeted by an old friend and OSBA legend, Chris Killoran, who served as the base umpire for today's games.
In Game #1, Jesse Dinsmore started for York and Shawn Walker countered for the Flyers.
The Diamonds scored in 6 of the 7 innings and cruised to a 10-4 victory. Brent Fransman hit his first home run of the year and also singled off the top of the left field wall. Oz Alvarez hit his second dinger of the year, a 3-run no-doubter to left. Alvarez finished the day with 4 RBI and he along with 4 other Diamonds (Andrew Seguin, Varun Krishnammagaru, Alex Beauvais, and Fransman) all had 2 hits. York had 14 hits and 7 stolen bases. Dinsmore went the distance and struck out 4 for the win. Matt Antaya and Kolton Latour both had 2 hits for the Flyers.
Game 2 was a back and forth affair that saw the Flyers win 10-9 on a walkoff home run by Hunter Baker, his third round-tripper of the season. York jumped out to a 4-0 lead but the Flyers scored the next 9 runs. A key inning saw 5 hard hits in a row from Griffin Judson, Owen Sheppard, Luke Leoen, Kelly Durack, and Kolton Latour. Owen Sheppard pitched into the 5th before Brendan Tink recorded the final two outs.
York was down 9-4 in the fifth (which ended up being the last inning) before scoring 5 times to tie it. The big blows were a 2-run double by Varun Krishnammagaru, an RBI double by Ryan Freeman, and a game tying hit from Brent Fransman.
The Flyers kept their composure and Baker deposited the third pitch in the bottom of the 5th over the left field wall to give the Flyers their walkoff victory.
Good sportsmanship was on display throughout the days from both teams as well as the umpires and it made for a great day at the park. Tomorrow will be the culmination of me going absolutely insane as this is the schedule for the day
8:30/11:00 am Junior doubleheader at Connorvale Park between Markham and Royal York
2:00/4:30 doubleheader at 9th Line between Milton and Bowmanville
3:00/5:30 doubleheader at 9th Line between Mississauga Southwest and Whitby
That's right, I am aiming to see 6 games in 11 hours without my head exploding or getting heatstroke....wish me luck.
