My Sunday baseball marathon was cut a bit short but still quite long.

It started with a trip to a wet Connorvale Park to see the Markham Juniors take on the Royal York Juinors. the play was of pretty high calibre and Royal York pulled away late in the first game to win 10-0. The second game ended in controversy with the score tied 2-2 in the 6th. The Royal York coach who got his park bookings mixed up had asked Markham to show up for an 8:30 Sunday morning doubleheader with only a few days notice, Markham obliged and they were "thanked" for their generosity by having to watch the Royal York coach blatantly stall to try to get to the drop-dead time before his team blew the game. In the last half inning, there were 4 mound visits and 2 umpire visits all in a game that was totally meaningless in the standings. The Royal York players seemed suitably embarrassed by their own coaches antics.

Well enough about non-OSBA games, it was early afternoon and I made the trek to 9th Line armed with the knowledge that Bowmanville had just forfeited their doubleheader against Milton. I soldiered on to watch two first place teams collide, Whitby and Mississauga Southwest.

On this day, it was all Whitby as they won by scores of 22-0 and 14-4.

In the first game Matt Laflamme homered for Whitby and Brian Harris had a long three run double. Laflamme also singled and doubled and drove in 4 runs. Whitby scored 14 runs in the 4th inning. Thomas Atkinson pitched well and got the win. Mike O'Donnell managed the lone hit for the Twins. A late game altercation resulted in an ejection but cooler heads prevailed after that.

In the second game, I left with the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the first after home plate had become dislodged from the ground and the game was delayed. When things picked back up, the Canadians cruised to victory behind a Dylan Brady home run and a complete game from Ben Fuhrmann. Javed Baksh went the distance for the Twins and Jeff Bond blasted a long two run double.,

Both the Twins and Canadians have had hot starts to the season and both are well-deserving of their fine records to the point in the year. Whitby has begun to sort out some pitching issues and continues to have a number of feared hitters, including Niko Angelakos, Ryan George, and Dylan Brady.

Meanwhile the Twins have gotten great pitching from Javed Baksh, Stu Kingston, and Peter Westlake. The offense has been lead by Jacob Siracusa, Christian D'Cruz, and Pat McEnroe.
