| Flames (3-1) vs Stars (3-1)
Last game of the first round, we should have a feel for who the contenders are and who will fall to their dominance. Wait a minute, last season the Flames sat at 3-1 and alone in first at this point of the season, they ended up with only 5 more wins all year and ended in last by a fair bit. Tough stuff to figure out sometimes. The Flames were not able to come to agreement on a contract with their highly touted rookie Gilby and he has been DFA’d and picked up by Lada of the KHL. Flames will be short handed all year. Despite missing their 6th rounder the Flames are tied in first. This may be due to pulling the wool over the leagues eyes and getting Manson slotted as a third rounder. Leagues top scoring D by 4 points, Top 6 in overall scoring, shootout sniper, hmmm. Oh yeah, Manson led the Flames this week with a regulation goal and the shootout winner. Fougere scored 1 and single assists went to Baxter and the LeBlanc twins. 4 weeks into the new season and I forgot the new rule that shootout goals count in the scoring stats so the Flames director of PR had to text me to remind me. Thanks for the heads up, I am old and forget things. The Stars were led by Holt who scored the GWG and then was assigned to be the chip carrier water boy. Chad deserves more respect than this, Stars better be careful or that Sportchek discount may disappear. Ryan and Haverstock each scored 1, Havey has now scored in 27 straight games, that isn’t points in 27 straight that is goals. Not Impressed? The second longest streak is 3, held by Mike Bent and Marc LeBlanc. Iceton, MacDonald and McNeil each had an assist in the Stars victory. Great battle to open week 5 with the top 2 teams facing each other. Big battle for second place in the scoring race here too as Baxter and Haverstock joust for Irving bragging rights. Imagine the trash talk if the Flames could end the streak. The Flames can score but they allow 3 a game too, this insider thinks Havet=y gets one of them at least.
Stars 3 – Flames 2
Lions (2-2) vs Ratpack (1-3)
Ritcey will return to the Lions this week after the longest absence of his career. Currie scored 1 and assisted on another for the Lions, getting 2 of the 4 points he needs to reach 100 in his career. That bronze stick is looking like a sure thing this season. Messervey had assists on both goals and received his first 10 minute misconduct of the season. We now have 3 guys with one 10 this season so they are all just 1 more away from a game suspension. Proline has the odds at Messervey -425, Veinot at -200 and Murphy pays even money. Burgess scored the other Lions goal and continues to be the most dominant 2 way player the HRHL has ever seen. Where was Joel Powell when we needed him, Itchy gets cut for 6 and has to go to the regular dudes hospital. Guys if you are going to get cut open do it on a week that Powell isn’t vacationing off the coast of France. I know most off you don’t consider Yarmouth off the coast of France but if you check it out, I am not wrong. Glazebrook led the Ratpack with a goal and 2 assists. Anyone watching also saw him make me into a turnstile. For the better part of 20 years this guy has been doing this to me, he is far and away my least favorite player to play against. MacQueen had 2 helpers while Munden and States each scored once. States goal was as nice a pass as you will ever see, from you guessed it Glazebrook. I was pretty sure Desi was my D partner as he was back on our blueline the entire game. Imagine my surprise when I did up the stats Friday night and saw he scored for the Rats. McNeil returns to the Ratpack after taking time to teach kids how to be better players, maybe he shares some of that with his teammates and they grab the win.
Ratpack 4 – Lions 3
Oilers (2-2) vs Jets (1-1-2)
Bent plays with a new skate blade and realizes hockey is easy when your blades aren’t broken, he scores 3 and assists on 2 to take a commanding lead in the scoring race. LeBlanc and Longo each have 1 and 1, Corkill scores once and Veinot gets an apple. Glennie gets injured and finds his own replacement. This is what goalies should be doing, kudos to Glenn for being a stand up kind of guy. Then we told him Logan never showed and we were down 5-0 before we could find a goalie. Glenn was distraught for 24 hours. I have said this many times, Glen is a better dude than I am. Ross scored both of the Jets goals, he has 7 points and the Jets have just 9 goals. Seems a shadow on him might be a good game plan. Duke and Tracey each had an assist in the Jets OT loss. The Jets suffered a couple of big injuries as Perry has been reported to have a LBI, looked like a hammy to the crowd but we will await the MRI results to be sure. Itchy blocked a shot with his head, didn’t go so well for him but with 6 stiches he is no uglier than he ever was. It may take a few weeks for Itchy to get used to the full cage that his sister wife will insist he wears and Perry could be out with a muscle tear or he could be in Windsor at the JR B game, either way the Jets may be short staffed this week.
Oilers 3 – Jets 1
Shootout Scoring Race:
1 – Messervey, Manson
Rookie Scoring Race:
7 – Manson 6 – Iceton 3 – Newcombe, Gilbert 1 – Daly 0 – O’Hearn
Goalie Scorig Race:
2 – Grease
Side Notes:
Tim Ryan and Longo lead the Prediction Pool, perennial contenders these two.
The Jays take the division, wow what a weekend of stress. Top team in the American league, great season with some wild ups and downs.
I got the Yanks, Cleveland, LA and SD in the wild card round, who you got?
The Jays get the winner of Boston and the Yankees, let’s hope they go 3 games and use up their bullpens.
My Steelers down the Vikings. Sorry Longo and Dan. Burrow is out, Lamar left the game and the Browns are the Browns. The division looks gettable.
Bills and Eagles are the only undefeated teams, possible Super Bowl match up.
Packers and Cowboys play to a 40-40 tie, WTF. 10-10 I can see, how can you score 40 each and neither team can get a TD in OT?
Two MNF games tonight and tomorrow is a holiday, I like it.
Some of you suckers don’t get tomorrow off, lots of government jobs posted, get them now or even better be a teacher.
Chargers lose to the 0-3 Giants in a rookies first start, same old Chargers.
Hendrix Lapierre is the leading scorer in NHL preseason he has struggled to stay in Washington’s lineup the past couple of years. This could be the year.
Europe hangs on to win the Ryder Cup. It was almost unwatchable because the fans were arseholes. I blame the Phoenix open. Golf was the last sport that had classy fans, now you can’t hit a shot without some idiot yelling mashed potatoes or get in the hole. Start throwing these clowns off the course and get back to your roots.
Bad Bunny is the halftime show at the Super Bowl, what are the chances ICE pick him up during the performance.
My NHL fantasy draft is this Saturday, best time of the year.
What is the world coming to? In Scotland there have been several cheaters caught in the stone skipping championship. Doctoring stones. I was pretty good at skipping stones as a kid, might have missed my calling.
Postal strike in Canada, I thought they just settled, oh well, I check the mail every couple of months and toss the flyers.
Cherry Blossom has been discontinued, that was the father in laws favorite. Not a big cherry fan so doesn’t affect me.
Marc-Andre Fleury plays one last game, is it possible he is the most beloved goalie ever? Never heard anyone say a bad thing about this dude, kinda like Glenn Ingraham.
Standings:
7 – Longo, TimR 6 – MacQueen, PGuy, Chad, Webs, Sto, Skinny 5 – Grease, Leon, Grayson, TimH 4 – Priest, GHegs, Prodigy, Ted, Ross, Croke, Murphy, Kerr, TonyM 3 – Todd, Taiwan, Logan, Goalie29 2 – Perry, Dukey

| HRHL week five.
The end of the first round of games is nigh.
As Commish Webber has noted, this is that magical time of year when the drunken denizens, hockey hooligans, and puckish pundits of the Centennial’s ale-addled, chip-stocked stands start to ponder their prognostications' proverbial practicality and begin to muster a marginally better understanding of whether or not what they thought about our various franchises and their championship aspirations is bang on or wildly off-base.
After four weeks, we’ve got two squads tied for first (the RedHotz and the Twinklers), three teams tied for third (the VeinBros, HartCats, and Croke-A-Dukes), and one proud franchise strategically lying in wait only 2 points behind third and 4 points out of first poised to make a steady climb to the top of the standings and, ultimately, championship glory (Marky Mouse and the Snappy Traps).
No music references this week, though we’ll have team tunes in the coming weeks from Halifax 90’s scene legends Sloan, seminal punk rock outfit Minor Threat, and all-time great Bruce Springsteen.
As a change of pace, we’ll go all Reading Rainbow bookish this week, with a gem of a book from Giller-nominated author Bill Gaston that’s proof that (some) hockey players can read, and maybe even write.
The tome in question – from back in 2006 when some of us were still good is “Midnight Hockey: All About Beer, the Boys and the Real Canadian Game”. It’s basically about Gaston’s final season on ice, as he considers hanging up his skates (a la HRHL legend Bob Strum) and looks back on his hockey life.
It’s lewd, pretty hilarious, sometimes (though not as often) reflective, and it’s a damn good read. “Midnight Hockey” is a page-turning snapshot of what is clearly Canada’s proudest athletic phenomenon: beer league hockey. It’s got the rules of the game (written and unwritten), weird beers, ridiculous team names, road-trip sex, and a bunch of stories of Gaston’s life in the game, from the outdoor rinks of Winnipeg, through junior hockey, varsity, European pro leagues, to the late-night games and road-trip shenanigans of beer league.
For all of us guys who drive to the rink late on a snowy night, who know the sublime euphoria of a beer (or three) after the game, who think of how good they used to be, who think how good they THINK they used to be, who grow nostalgic over a whiff from an unwashed hockey bag or an old jersey that doesn’t quite fit exactly the way it used to, this book is laugh-out-loud funny, true-to-life, and oddly (ultimately) thoughtful. I recommend it, especially paired with a beer or two or three.
On to the games…
Flames (3-1-0) vs Stars (3-1-0)
The early game is a beauty. A top of the table tussle. This one may depend on which mystery goalie the Shiny brights start between the pipes. Thinking the Flames stay hot.
Flames 3 – Stars 2
Lions (2-2-0) vs Ratpack (1-3-0)
The sandwich skate this week features two squads each getting key guys back into their respective line-ups. I think the mice look nice in this one.
RatPack 3 – Lions 2
Oilers (2-2-0) vs Jets (1-1-2)
Seems pretty darn apt that the west coaster this week features a classic Smythe division tilt. As was the case throughout the glorious, glorious 80s, the Oil prove too slick for the Jets in this one.
Oilers 3 – Jets 2
The Lunn’s Mill Beer Co. Stewtenni-Ale HRHL POWER RANKINGS after WEEK 4.
A bit of movement this week after some interesting results last Friday night.
6. RatPack (down 2 spots from #4, but it’s all a part of the plan) 5. Jets (holding steady at #5) 4. Lions (down 2 spots from #2) 3. Oilers (up 3 spots from #6) 2. Flames (up 1 spot from #3) 1. Stars (holding steady at #1)

| Weekly 3 Stars……
3. Holt, scores the GWG late in the game last week as the stars defeat the lions 3-2. Check one off your management given total Chad. With a balanced attack featuring 3 scoring lines the stars are primed to do some damage. This player does his role expertly and is a big component to that successful third line , well done!!
2. Manson, the immovable force score 2 including the SO winner last week. 7 points in 4 games, looks like this guy needs a shadow Friday night. I can’t wait till the captains meeting next year and this player gets bumped to the first or second round. Imagine the flames were selling this guy as a 4-6 rounder, a giant mobile defender is never a bad thing for the flamers!!
1. Bent, 3 goals 2 assists in the oilers big win last week. This guy is on pace for 47 goals and wins his second weekly star award. Seems to be finding solid chemistry with Longo and mark Leblanc’s great option A or B. A lethal shot and Jonny dangles near the net, a handful every time he has the puck in the offensive end Congrats on winning again free Gatorade till Xmas on skinners tab

| Notes……..
- what a way to end round 1 , two 3-1 teams looking for first place.
- hard to believe the first round is over Friday night.
Top 3 biggest pleasant surprises 1. The jets are in every game doing better then many gave them props for. Reigning MVP turps and always in the MVP talk Findlay will do that 2. Ross offensive explosion 7 points in 4 games, solid 1. Bent tearing the league up. I guess his brother was holding him back lololol
Early award picks Top D Gilbert MVP Havey Top goalie whoever the fuck the stars roll out Top defensive forward Ryan
-milestone alert, congrats to Craig Messervey who after getting his 27th 10 min misconduct passes former legend Mike fisher for first all time. I mean it was inevitable Craig would surpass Fish eventually.
- beer sales seem to be very robust around the league, stars are setting nicely for the team party .
- is Jason priest playing for the flames? Asking for a friend.
- go jays go, they match up better with the Yankees then the Sox
- Stolarz signs a great contract 4/15 million. To sign your starter for under 4 per season is a coup.
- ballsy worked the phones this weekend more then a convergys operator back in the day.
Anyone see the brawl in a where wanderlei Silva got suckered by a little dude and knocked the fuck out?
- temps are changing in the morning, chilly
- big win for the oilers last week
- lions solid fight missing some key players last week
- ballsy annihilates Ross”s ( can’t remember if you put an apostrophe after a dudes name ending with s. As I know you fuckers are all grammar police every time I mess up) stick late in the game. They gave graham a phone pole that he wasn’t comfortable with then shoots in SO. Flames will do anything to win

| Notes cont……
I forgot one more award picks Top rookie Iceton in a cake walk
- itchy was like the kids last week wearing the all white sneakers. Not worried about the gash , only worrying if any blood got in his white boots.
- betcha the Ryder cup doesn’t go to Beth page black anytime soon after those whiny fans . Glad Europe won I’d love to see one of the Irishmen pop Dechambeau in the head. Fuck he seems like a goof
Started watching the house of Guinness on Netflix about the beer company . Kinda like peaky blinders meets billions. A pretty good start two shows in

| Is Stolarz a real starter though? He'd probably go in the 9th round in our draft.
Congrats to Havey on the 27 straight games with a goal. Impressive. Or is it? I am on a 55 game streak with 0 goals. You got a ways to go buddy.
Well, Rookie Pat Gilbert spun me in a circle like I was a merry-go-round. I guess I will shoot for the Norris next year.
Grease won the family showdown last week.
Jays had to leave it to game 162 didn't they? Nice rest before the Sox or Yanks come to town. Gausman,Bieber then who? Bassitt back? The kid?
Will Parsons watch the Jays in the playoffs? Why has he decided to never post again? He's probably still upset from Michael Archibald beating him in an argument. Is PEI or Newfoundland considered THE island? Parsons?
Speaking of Itchy. What's he gonna do this week? Protect the face with a bubble? Or get skate protectors? Tough call
Old Kanye was so good. Then he got money.
Lane Hutson's lateral movement is out of control. Habs lost Guhle and Dobson both with groin injuries? I remember Dobson playing 57 minutes a game beating the Moose in the Memorial cup.
I guess my yahoo fantasy football draft rating was correct. Got a D-. About to go 0-4. Damn
Lions have signed golf superstar Wayne Ritcey and hockey skill teacher extraordinaire Grayson Ingraham for rest of the season. Both officially off the trade block. Maybe.... Need some reserves for when the Stars send the goons after Lady Byng nominees Messervey and d'Entremont.
I'll be back

| This week I figured I’d ask Google AI to make my picks. This is what I got.
For the 2025-2026 Halifax Recreational Hockey League season, a game between the Flames and the Stars would be a tight one. Both teams have identical 2-1 records and are tied for first place in the league standings. However, the Flames have a slight edge in offensive power. In four games, Flames player Dan Fougere has scored four goals and added four assists. This compares to the Stars' top scorer, Ian Haverstock, who has five goals and four assists in the same number of games. Head-to-head matchup The Flames and Stars will face off on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 8:00 PM at the Centennial Arena. The outcome will likely depend on which team's defense is better able to shut down the opposing team's key offensive players. Flames win
In the Halifax Recreational Hockey League, the Lions would be favored to win against the Ratpack based on the current 2025-2026 season standings. The Lions have accumulated 4 points, placing them third in the league standings, while the Ratpack are in fifth place with 2 points. The Lions have a better record and are performing slightly better defensively, though the Ratpack have scored more goals. An upcoming game between the Lions and the Ratpack is scheduled for 9:00 PM at the Centennial Arena. Lions Win
A match between the Oilers and the Jets in the Halifax Recreational Hockey League would be a close contest. Both teams have identical records of one win and two losses in their first three games. The Jets are in fourth place and the Oilers in fifth place in the league standings. The Oilers and Jets are scheduled to play each other on Friday, October 3rd at 10:00 PM at the Centennial Arena. Tie game
Let’s see how good Google is! Can’t believe it actually had a response for me.

| Stars Flames kick off week 5. Chad looks for a repeat performance of last week, in which be buried the game winner into an empty net. Or as he told story later in the stands, Deked out 3 Lions forwards, toe dragged Billard and snipped it top corner with mere millimeters to spare.
It appears contract negotiations between Gilby and Flames management have broken down. Gilby insisted on $2 beer, Flames hold tight at $2.50. I’d like to remind Justin and Phil of thier third biological brother who they keep hidden down in Clare, like Sloth from the Goonies. Get him up here! Like in their youth, whoever gets the most points that year is moms favorite son.
Flames 3 Stars 4
Speaking of hidden bothers. Rick “Craig McTavish” Flinn also has two hidden older brothers who could come out and play. Get them out here! See who moms favorite is. Rick looked like a real pro last week as he dawned no bucket during warmup, he somehow managed to cram his head into a McDonalds Happy Meal Toy replica helmet for the game.
Patty Logan with back to back solid games, allowing 3 goals in each. Unfortunately for the lions, their offence just isn’t up the Oilers standards and the 2nd 3 goals wasn’t enough. As killing stuff season begins will we see the likes of Taylor and Flemming much this month? I’ve always suspected _____ was a serial killer, I won’t say who in case my suspicions are correct. Lions 3 Ratpack 4
Perry suffers a injury similar to Tyreek Hill, but Perrys much tougher and stays in the game. Hopefully nothing serious. Jets management will be prescribing Tylenol to all their players to help with their math skills and they had trouble counting to four during the shootout.
Bent continues to roll for the oilers with his 2nd Hatrick of the year. Is an empty net Hattrick still a Hattrick. Consensus is Yes. With Bent scoring all these Hat tricks, Skinner has taken Veinot under his wing showing him how to become a defensive specialist. Has two Selke nominees from the same team ever been done before? Oilers 5 Jets 0

| Stars/Flames…. What a way to start the night , it’s like the Yankees vs the Red Sox. The The stars are the Yankees here in a 3-2 defensive battle victory. Havey , bright and Larry do the scoring and Dan returns with a virtuoso performance with 33 saves
- lions/rattrap…… gotta feeling here that burgess Ritcey come together for a few in this one. 5-4 lions take this. Burgess 2 Ritcey 2 and Grayson bulge the twine, Logan stands tall to with stand a furious rally late to get the W.
Jets/Oilers……. Gotta play the odds here as oilers eek a 2-1 win over the jets . Bent and longo snipe the beauts and glen stands on his head(did I really just write that?) in the oilers win .

| Afternoon folks,
How about the Wings smashing the Leafs last night. Pre-season, I know but that was a dominant performance.
I heard Matthews gets 70 this year from dummy TO media. Good luck man. You need a wingman.
Did you see the Wings young d core? Nice foundation. Lucas Raymond is gonna go off too. Wings and Vikes champs in the same year. i love it.
Gonna do my annual hockey pool with Webby and the fellas. It doesn't help my ego that I finish last every year but if I can "buy" a few friends by participating and giving my money its fine.
This year I have a new plan for the pool. Look out fuckers!
I am pretty sure the Oilers are close to a break out stretch.
I told Bent I was gonna get a hatty last week. After our game he said, " At least someone did."
I have never had a hatty in my life, not in a game, not in pick-up, nothing. Another thing that tries to destroy my confidence. I have scored a ton on the third and fourth graders in intramurals at work. The damn Fifth graders are all hopped up on roids so not my fault I can't light them up.
I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would avoid marijuana. It just makes things better.
After my late night bowl of curry, bowl of spaghetti, hotdog, and bowl of rice crispies, multiplie handfuls of peanuts (between 10 and 12 pm) I decided to take a month off weed. Two days in and I havent slept a wink, but also no appetite. Win some and lose some I guess. I better get jacked.
Why would TSN ever have anyone doing the Fanduel shit other than Takeya Singh. She is the only reason i watch.
Family comes in and I am watching Angelica's Kettlebell show. Sitting on the couch to watch. Tell the wife i am doing research. You would understand if you check it out for a minute or two. Old fellas need inspiration whereever they can get it. Lunge, Lunge twist, bend at waist, repeat!
Great job with the posts fellas. TMoney is getting a bit stale these days so we need new blood.
Flames win Lions win Oil win
