Lions (5-3) vs Stars (5-3) Stars lead season series 1-0

Burgess was held to just 2 goals this week, after scoring 2 and getting 1 assist for the past 3 weeks this felt like a win for the Oilers defence. Ritcey had 2 assists, Taiani scored one and lone apples went to Flemming, Messervey and Taylor. The Lions tried line matching and it backfired in the worst possible way. They did try to use the home team advantage but they were not even the home team. Sending Logan in early to get the better room doesn’t equate to being the home team, if that was the case my team would be the home team about 23 times a year and always in playoff games. The Stars won without their top 2 guts 2 weeks ago, this week they return but Tim Ryan is missing and they go down in defeat. Sometimes the glue is more important than the parts. Havey had 2 goals, Gilbert had 2 apples. Real Deal scored once and single assists went to Gallant, Iceton and MacDonald. These two teams are tied for top spot so the winner is guaranteed to still be on top after this week. The league is so tight that the loser could be holding onto a playoff spot by a tie breaker rule. Do Murphy and Messervey make it through the game without doing their little dance? I would like to see them drop the gloves and settle this thing once and for all.

Stars 4 – Lions 3

Jets (3-3-2) vs Flames (5-3) Flames lead season series 1-0

The Jets average less than 3 goals a game, this week they scored 5 with 3 coming in a 2 minute 24 second span. If you let the Jets score 5 you are not going to win, Dewey is too good and they drafted 9 d men including the reigning MVP and Norris winner. Ross led the Jets with a goal and 2 assists. MacIsaac scored twice, Tracey and Pecarski each had 2 assists. Tran and Turple scored and single helpers went to Duke and Orser. The Flames got their captain back and got back to their winning ways. Bray had 1 and 1, Baxter 2 assists, J LeBlanc scored once as did Manson. Ashley and Strong each added an assist. Ashley’s coming from his new position as a stalwart defenceman. Last time these guys met it was a shoot out win for the Flames, should be tight again.

Flames 2 – Jets 1

Oilers (4-4) vs Ratpack (2-5-1) Oilers lead season series 1-0

LeBlanc set a modern day HRHL record with 7 goals and 1 assist. I thought Desi had 8 goals a few years back but it was 6 goals and 2 assists. Havey had 6 and 2 a couple of years ago as well. Veinot holds the league record with 48 goals in a season but 5 was his top single game that season. My records only go back to the early 2000’s so it is possible someone had 7 goals before but it seems unlikely. It is also possible someone has done it between 2000 and 2018 where looking through the records becomes very time consuming. I am going with congrats on the record Marc. Bent had a front row seat to the scoring show with one of his own and 5 apples. Redden had 1 and 3, Corkill had a couple assists and Sto and Webber each had 1 helper. The Ratpack were led by States and MacQueen who each scored 1, assists went to Flinn, Glazebrook and Parsons. The Prodigy missed the game, he is back this week. Oilers might struggle to get enough guys to play as Team management has given Jays tickets out to LeBlanc and Webber for this Friday nights game 6. Veinot is still on IR and Giles is out again. Couple more guys out and it could be a lot of ice time for the few remaining bodies. Oil still win.

Oilers 4 – Ratpack 1

10 Minute Misconduct Race:

1 – Veinot, Murphy, Messervey, Zwicker

Shootout Scoring Race:

1 – Messervey, Manson, Flinn, Ryan, Gilbert

Rookie Scoring Race:

12 – Manson
11 – Gilbert
9 – Iceton
5 – Newcombe
1 – Daly, O’Hearn

Side Notes:

As noted earlier, if there is a game 6 in TO I am going, I don’t think I have ever been this excited in my life.

Hotels in Toronto are not as expensive as I had thought.

Flights are a bitch right now. Good thing my brother is an airline employee, nice little family discount.

Weird feeling hoping they win but also wanting it to get to game 6.

Yes I will be going to game 7 if there is one, if their isn’t I guess I can hang out at the Brass Rail.

Leafs do not play while I am in town.

Raptors don’t either.

I have a good feeling about tonight’s game.

I have a 9pm game tonight, might fake an injury.

Oops, ignore that Matt.

Nick Schmaltz is tied for the NHL scoring race, anyone taking him to win it?

This Celebrini kid is the real deal, hard to imagine how much more Bedard was pumped up by the media a year earlier. If I had to draft one of them in the HRHL I would take Celebrini.

He would be second line centre to Marc LeBlanc next week.

Sid has 11 points in 9 games, Malkin has 14. Something in the water in Pittsburgh.

Matthews has 8 points in 9 games, 58th in the scoring race. Can we all agree Marner had a huge hand in Matthews being considered a top guy. Dude can shoot but he is a one trick pony.

Nick Suzuki is under rated, makes a great motorcycle too.
Matthew Schaefer is legit, I wonder if Canada wins gold last year if he doesn’t get hurt.

Skattebo was my go to RB in 2 FFB pools, great steal in the late rounds of the draft. His foot now faces the wrong direction. Any chance that is a good thing for a RB, might make cutting easier.

The NY Jets win will wonders never cease.

Maybe Indy is for real.

There is an arms race in our 45 plus league. 2 teams might ruin it for the league, not sure what the solution is.
I am not involved in the league but a draft is the best way to solve this issue, that is exactly why the summer league is a draft league now.

Our summer team was really good the last few years.

Turns out I know a lot of good hockey players, must be from being so old.

I think some English rules need to change. We can add new words every year so why can’t we stop with a before a consonant and an before a vowel, or a soft consonant. Help me out here teachers.

This Friday is Halloween, be aware of little fuckers dressed up who you could run over on the way to the games.

Waiting on the pics of your wives dressed as slutty nurses and the such.

Standings:

11 – TimR, Longo
10 – Chad, Leon, Grayson, TimH, Sto, Ross, Webs, Skinny, Croke
9 – MacQueen, PGuy, Murphy, Taiwan, Ted
8 – Grease, Logan, Tony, Perry, Todd
7 – Prodigy, Priest, Ghegs, Dukey
6 – Kerr
4 - Glenn

With the Jays playing all these Friday night late games. HRHL viewership has been down. The Leafs and Raptors managed to reschedule their games to avoid conflicting schedules. Who do we need to talk to here to get some Friday afternoon games?!

That said, this week could be even worse, Jays game 6 and Halloween falling on the same night. Anyone with kids ages 5-10 is going to have to use a lot of Dad points to make the 8 o’clock game.

Lions had just one of those games last week. The puck was following Marc around like Marty following hot girls around Thursday night at the Palace. It was the first time I’ve ever seen a team use home team last change in beer hockey and I got to say I loved it. Although after the results we may never see it again…

Some people have been asking what Marc had for super last Friday: Answer: An expired can of Escargot (True Story). Will Timmy Ryan hop on this trend and start bringing in cans of expired seafood instead of chips for the Stars? I hate to see the damage Havey could do both on the ice and in the bathroom after eating a can of rotten oysters. I think stars take this one:
Stars 5
Lions2

I heard Little Brother LeBlanc scored a goal of the year candidate. Problem is if no one saw it do did it really happen? Like the old saying goes: If the pope shits in the woods and a bear doesn’t hear it, did it make a sound? (something like that). I did hear it from Mr. Gerard Bray though. Who’s honest, trustworthy and cannot tell a lie so I’m inclined to believe it (Vote Bray 2028)

I talked to Perry for a minute as I left last week, He was just showing up halfway through the game. I don’t remember what was said but it must have been inspirational as he popped 2 goals in the 2nd half.

Flames 3
Jets 2

Matt “Makar” Redden puts up 4 points, Mike “Bossy” Bent puts up 6. But like Mario Lemieux in the 88/89 season these guys fall short of the MVP of the week with the Frenchiest LeBlanc putting up 7 goals, 8 points. Half the guys in the league can’t even count that high. He does it all on a full stomach of expired Escargot. Doesn’t get any frenchier than that. But I’m sure many of you find yourselves saying, 7 goals are great and all, but who got the 2nd assist on Marcs 5th goal?! We want to hear more about that.

Let me tell you a story… Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. On that Sun lives a man named Sto.
I felt like Magnus Carlsen in the 2014 World Chess Championship. I was seeing four, five, six even 20 moves ahead… I saw it all transpiring the shift before, calculating how I could get the puck to Marc in just 2 passes or less.. okay okay that’s enough.
Oilers take this won even if we’re missing half our team.
Oilers 5
RatPack 0

I would like to remind the commish about how fucking annoying it was when a text came to him while we were in Nashville saying we had to deal with suspension shit from that nights games in the HRHL.

For the record, fighting comes with suspensions. If you need to fight do it over at the park across the street so I don't need to deal with it. Better yet, go have a tea and find some common ground. Maybe you are more alike than you know!!

Stars win?
FLames win?
Oilers (No one offered Longo tickets) win

I want to start by apologizing to Tim who picked me to score last week, but you had to realize they were very long odds. Must have been paying 1000 to 1, I guess it doesn’t hurt to try.

AI was short and sweet this week, but is sadly mistaken about our game.

Predictions
1.Lions vs. Stars ? I predict the Stars will win.
•Reason: The Stars are tied at the top of the standings and appear to have strong offensive production.

2.Jets vs. Flames ? I predict the Jets will win.
•Reason: Jets seem stronger than Flames based on their standings position and goal differential (Jets trailing leaders but still competitive).

3.Oilers vs. Ratpack ? I predict the Oilers will win.
•Reason: The Oilers are at the top of the standings and look to have the momentum and statistical edge.

Stars win
Flames win
Oilers win

Weekly 3 stars…….

3. Bray, 1 goal 1 assist in the flames hard fought win over the rattraps last week. This guy is a solid contributor at both ends of the ice and is always in the flames scoring mix . With him leading the line , this team will be going places!!!

2. Macissac, scores 2 in the game vs his former team the stars last week . This speedster flying around the ice leads to good things for the jets offence . He was motivated to beat his former squad last week and it showed up on the scoreboard. This horse race loving guy was a lap two leader after lap two vs the stars

1. Leblanc, 7 goals and 1 assist, must be some kind of record. 45% of the league won’t have that many goals in the year let alone one night. Oh what a night, sounds like everything this guy touched went into the net , a great night for a much needed win for his oiler mates . One of those nights where everytime you touch the puck something good happens, almost a goal every shift. An amazing night for this player and his team
Oh what a night!

Notes….

- go jays go!! Can they do it tonight?

- commissioner webs will be there, oh the 14 dollar beer I would drink there. Dugout deals , 5.50$ cans by section 237 great deal.

- I can only imagine the hotel prices this weekend on the T dot

- the leafs are a mess, goalies are the shits, defence struggling and Matthews is the worst leader in sports. I guess it wasn’t all markets fault

- Crosby Malkin near the top of league scoring. wtf is this a 2011 rewind?

- massage today with Victoria. Squeeze away all my injuries. Hurts like fuck but always makes me feel better

- that Marlins idiot no always sitting behind home plate bothers me

- Eddie hill is a pretty solid forward I must say

-nice gesture by Brad Marchand coaching against the macs for his buddy who lost his child. Can’t even imagine going through that

- I know I’m a top defensive forward in the league along with burgess but come on stars I miss one fuckin game and you let the jets get 5 on you???
Morning skate maybe tough on you

- will Bob have an HRHL sign on TV

- Dan and buck are the best in the game commentating
Buck “come on now get a ground ball for a double play so the kid can walk off with his teammates”
It happens and this guy was screaming like a maniac and jumping around

- Yesavage was dominant last game

- this is the closest I can ever remember our league being . If you don’t show up you will lose

- I was born ready

- good luck to stars Defenceman Luke as he heads to watch the Pats falcons game Sunday. If you see ICE coming ruuuunnnnnn.

Stars/lions…… a first place showdown here to kick off the night. A back and forth battle sees the stars win 5-4. Havey , real deal with a pair each and Poirier with the winner leads the stars. Rookie sensation Gilbert adds four assists and Dan closes the door to preserve the win

Flames/jets…….a tough one to call in the mid card affair but I’ll go flames 3-2 as that seems to be the score of all their games. Baxter, Dan and strong do the scoring and grease keeps them on top with 18 saves

Oilers/rattraps…… no Webber no Leblanc’s both at jays game. No win for the oilers then
Rattraps won 4-2 in the west coast . Desi wakes up with a pair, Macqueen and parsons do the scoring and Robinson seals the deal with 23 saves in the win

Go jays go
