Jets (5-12-3) vs Ratpack (9-10-1) Ratpack lead season series 3-1

Jets didn’t score so let’s talk about what is important in this league. Chips. Time to thank Tim for his contributions to the league. Bring me your donation this Friday or etransfer it to bob.webber@novascotia.ca. Ratpacks scored a few, Glazebrook led the way by setting up 2, Chappy and Munden each scored one. Parsons had the league’s first penalty shot in a few years and sniped.
What does this game mean? Life or death for the Jets – Ratpack are in a tie for the final playoff spot, any points are good points.

Rats 4 – Jets 1

Oilers (11-8-1) vs Stars (12-8) Oilers lead season series 3-1

LeBlanc and Veinot each scored one and single assists went to Corkill and Mousek. Oilers lost the lead in both the Art Ross and Maurice Richard races, they need to jump right back on track for both team success and for individual glory. The Stars showed what a force they can bee when all engines are clicking. Haverstock led the way with 5 goals and 3 assists, Captain Ryan went 3 and 3. Gilbert takes the lead over in both the rookie scoring and D scoring races with 4 assists. Gallant and O’Hearn each scored one and assisted on 2. Murphy had 2 apples, McNeil scored a beauty and lone assists went to MacDonald and Poirier.
What does this game mean? These teams seem likely to meet in the first round of the playoffs and this game is the last time they will meet before that. Home ice advantage? Might mean more in the Prediction Pool as TimR and Bongo are in a heated battle but will both take their own teams this week.

Oilers 5 – Stars 2

Lions (9-10-1) vs Flames (14-6) Season series tied 2-2

Billard scored both Lions goals and Logan recorded his second shut out of the year but his first for the Lions. Itchy and Turple each had an assist. The Flames had a bigger night than expected. The win was nice but they also clinched a playoff spot and the Net-Filler took over first in the Art Ross race. Net-Filler led the Flames with a goal and 3 apples, Bray had 1 and 2, Phil scored twice and single assists went to Coombs, Fougere, Justin, Manson and Newcombe. Back to our scoring leader. We have 19 full seasons of stats and only once in the HRHL’s history has a player won the scoring race and not been a first rounder the following season. Huntsy won in 2013 and was drafted 8th overall the following year. 8 of those 19 seasons the Art Ross champ went fist overall, something to think about for the captains.
What does this game mean? The Flames could all but clinch first overall, the Lions need every point they can get and grabbing one from the league leaders would be a huge, unexpected bonus.

Flames 6 – Lions 2

Shootout Scoring Race:

2 - Ryan
1 – Messervey, Manson, Flinn, Gilbert, Corkill, MacQueen, Hill, Bray

Rookie Scoring Race:

25 - Gilbert
24 – Manson
16 – Iceton
13 – Newcombe
8– O’Hearn
7 - Daly

Side Notes:

Second reminder, send your thanks to me for Tim or bring it to the Friday games.

Patriots vs Seattle Super Bowl, where have I heard this before?

I really want to cancel my SB party and not watch the game, fuck I hate the Pats.

Oh well at least the Leafs continue to live up to expectations.

Without a rash of shoot outs the Prediction Pool has become a two man race, both previous winners.

What I like best this year is no teammates are bunched to help collude.

Can one of you AI nerds tell us who next season’s top 2 rounds will be, it would save us a lot of trouble.

The more I read when AI shit is posted the more I realize AI has a long way to go before it can even begin to compete.

Snow day today, likely tomorrow too.

Snow days were the best when we were kids.

What does 3 weeks off do to an NHL player?

Teams with elite Russian players might be in for a great stretch run.

Gold hit $5000 an ounce, Parker is going nuts somewhere.

Dennis Rodman’s daughter is the highest paid soccer player in the world, she couldn’t look more like him.

Weekly 3 stars……

3. Billard, scores the only 2 in a 2-0 lions win. This player was converted to a forward from defence and has the wheels to get the job done. He scored both and was a force all game. Last seasons runner up ( in a ridiculous vote) for ROY has enjoyed a solid season with the lions .

2. Baxter, future first rounder scores 3 adds and assist in the flames decimation of the oilers last game. This guy has a never ending gas tank and is filling the net. I especially like the hattrick goal on the empty net. Where the hell was the goalie?
He leads the leagues deepest line and is priming in on a division crown. A solid season, can’t wait till August for the debates to begin hahaha

1. Havey, 5 goals and 3 assists for a monster game vs the pack last week. He scored ripper, top shelf, bottom shelf , middle shelf and tip in and also set up his buddies for three. Other guys have had great scoring seasons but this guy is the leagues premier lamplighter, I’ll say it to the crowd in back . The best scorer in the league bar none
Stars need this guy to keep up his lamp lighting ways

Well Bob in years past I have been consistently in the bottom of the prediction poll, so AI at least had me in the mix. I’m going to take my loss this year and forgo my pics for the rest of the year, but I did ask AI for one last write about this weeks games. Just let me know when to give the money:

Three matchups headline this week’s Halifax Recreational Hockey League slate, all set for Friday, January 30th at Centennial Arena. With the standings tightening and every team fighting for playoff positioning, each game carries real weight.

Halifax Recreational Hockey League — This Week’s Game Write-Up

(All schedule and standings data sourced from the provided HRHL LeagueLineup pages.)

Friday, January 30, 2026 — Centennial Arena

According to the league schedule, three games are on tap: Jets vs. Ratpack, Oilers vs. Stars, and Lions vs. Flames. leaguelineup...
Below is a full breakdown of each matchup, incorporating current standings and recent form.

Jets vs. Ratpack — 8:00 PM

Team Records
• Ratpack: 9–10–1 (19 pts)
• Jets: 5–12–3 (13 pts)

Storyline
The Jets enter the week at the bottom of the standings, but they’ve shown flashes—especially in tight games. Ratpack, tied with the Lions in points, are fighting to climb back into the playoff picture and can’t afford to drop points here.

Recent Form
• Ratpack lost 11–3 to the Stars in their most recent outing.
• Jets fell 2–0 to the Lions.

What to Watch
• Ratpack’s offense has been inconsistent, but they have dangerous playmakers like Ja-red Glazebrook (27 pts).
• Jets’ goaltending has kept them competitive, but they need more scoring support to stay in games.

Oilers vs. Stars — 9:00 PM

Team Records
• Stars: 12–8–0 (24 pts)
• Oilers: 11–8–1 (23 pts)

Storyline
This is the marquee matchup of the night—2nd vs. 3rd place, separated by just one point. A win could vault either team closer to the Flames at the top of the standings.

Recent Form
• Stars are coming off a dominant 11–3 win over Ratpack.
• Oilers dropped their last game 6–2 to the Flames.

What to Watch
• Stars’ firepower: Ian Haverstock (40 pts) and Tim Ryan (29 pts) drive one of the league’s most potent offenses.
• Oilers’ scoring depth: Mike Bent (44 pts) and Marc LeBlanc (36 pts) make the Oilers dangerous every shift.
• Expect a fast, high-tempo game with playoff intensity.

Lions vs. Flames — 10:00 PM

Team Records
• Flames: 14–6–0 (28 pts) — 1st place
• Lions: 9–10–1 (19 pts)

Storyline
The Flames sit atop the standings and continue to look like the team to beat. The Lions, meanwhile, are in a tight mid-table battle and need points to stay competitive.

Recent Form
• Flames beat the Oilers 6–2 last week.
• Lions shut out the Jets 2–0.

What to Watch
• Flames’ elite offense: Nick Baxter (46 pts) and Gerard Bray (41 pts) lead the league in scoring.
• Lions’ defensive structure: They’ve tightened up recently and will need a disciplined effort to slow the Flames’ top line.
• This could be a closer game than the standings suggest.

Final Thoughts
This week’s HRHL lineup features:

• A bottom-of-the-table battle (Jets vs. Ratpack)
• A top-tier showdown (Oilers vs. Stars)
• A first-place team defending its lead (Flames vs. Lions)

All three games have playoff implications, and with the league as tight as it is, Friday night at Centennial Arena should deliver plenty of drama.

Notes……..

- bill Bellechick isn’t chosen as a first ballot HOFer. If he isn’t can any coach ever be?
All he did was win !

- the pack showed a very Nebulous rubric game plan last week vs the stars.

- speaking of the stars that offence was on fire Friday night . Havey with 5 , Ryan with 3 and Poirier with a secondary assist.
Paul created space for us to roam

- watched Pittsburgh dummy the Blackhawks last night . I think they are a better team then given credit for. Hardworking and fast

- allocated the bruins game a bit. The announcers kill me how one sided they are

- watched a show “behind her eyes” the last snow day. Good show with some twists

-movie about Melania, trumps mail order bride absolutely bombed. Good

- gaethje and pimblett was a war. Great ufc scrap
Boys can take punches wow

- I’m enjoying taking mondays off for snow, it looks like another one this week . Getting tough to find a spot to throw it now lol.

- storm chips term has been great for our business, people stick up lol

- that fuckin alarm going off again. Wake the fuck up kid

- key questions this week
- are the jets done playing hard?
- can the pack rebound from the massacre at vimy avenue?
- stars oilers a playoff preview , can they be nice to each other ?
- can the flames win the division and make Baxter’s a scoring champ? First rounder?
- can the lions keep it up, winning their way in

- if tied , pack lions will play a one game showdown . I like it , it’s like a wild card game

- song of the week
Got you where I want you by the flys
If this song doesn’t scream 2000 I don’t know what does. A great track that I listen to at the gym and before hockey

- watching Croke score goals in 45+ I can’t believe he wasn’t forward in our league. He has a touch around the net

- I think I’m gonna let my wife treat me to breakfast today
Likely pur and simple or the cheeky neighbour on quinpool . Both great options
What’s your go to breakfast spot ?

Pack/jets…..a big game for the pack after getting bitch slapped last week by the stars. I’ve played with most of those guys before and know there’s pride in that room. Pack win 4-2 to take over sole possession of fourth place. Desi, Glazebrook, Macqueen and parsons score and Robinson does the rest with 19 saves
Hill with 3 assists sets the table

Stars /oilers. ……..we know damn near for certain that this is a first round playoff preview. Two evenly matched teams that meet for the second time in two weeks. This time it’s the stars who take it 5-3 . Havey 2 , Gilbert , Larry and real deal score the goals and Dan returns with 28 saves in the win.

Flames /lions………also a possible playoff preview here but with no burgess it’ll be tough. Flames 6-3 take the win and one step closer to clinching first. Baxter, bray snipe 2 each and Dan and Tristan score the others . If it seems like they are picked to score every week with the flames you’d be correct cause these four guys score all flames goals . Grease adds two assists and 16 saves in the win
