Lions (11-11-1) vs Ratpack (11-1-1) Season series tied 2-2

It all comes down to this, win this one and you make the playoffs, lose and it is season over. They are 2-2 this season head to head. Both teams got beat pretty badly this week so both are looking for a bounce back game. Such a tough call. Billard scored 1 and assisted on the other for the Lions this week, Turple scored 1 and single assists went to Taylor and Flemming. Parsons scored the Rats lone goal with assists to Flinn and MacQueen. Curious about who would shoot if this one went down to the skills contest to determine the winner? For the Rats it is Munden, MacQueen and Hill, Glazebrook would be the fill in if one of those 3 was missing. For the Lions it would be Turple, Hartnett and d’Entremont, fill in would be Itchy, second fill in would be Taiani, I put this here because Itchy has been on IR for a few weeks. So for those first 6 shooters it could be a moment that you remember forever, don’t miss this game. Now the tough part, who will win. I luckily am not trying to pick a winner as I need to gain 4 points on Timmy to win this thing so I have to take a shootout winner. Flipped a coin on this.

Ratpack 4 – Lions 3 in a shoot out

Flames (14-7-2) vs Stars (14-9-0) Flames lead season series 3-1

3 weeks ago having a final game showdown between these 2 teams for first overall seemed unlikely but the Flames have slowed down just as the Stars heated up and now we have a showdown for first place. If the Stars win in regulation they will clinch the President’s trophy with the first tiebreaker od total wins. Any other result and the Flames hold onto first. We also have a few other trophies up for grabs that could be decided by this game. Havey has had an incredible finish to the season and now has a 1 point lead over Baxter for the scoring title. Bent is lying in the weeds and hoping for these two to shadow each other and both get zeroes. Last time these teams met the Flames put a shadow on Haverstock and line matched, the result was 2 points for Havey and 2 for Baxter so they need a better game plan than that one. If both these guys don’t get 22 minutes of ice time I would be shocked. The next award up for grabs is the top D, there are really only 3 contenders for this one, Manson, Gilbert and Turple and with the Lions possibly out of the playoffs it would be hard to see any player on their team winning an individual award. Gilbert leads Manson by 4 points but Manson has play 4 fewer games. Coincidentally these guys are not just the top contenders for the Norris but the Rookie of the Year will come down to the same 2 guys. This game will have lots of influence on the voters and either guy is more than deserving. Now to the stats, Manson led the Flames with a goal and an assist this week, Newcombe scored 1 and Coombs had an assist. Haverstock had 2 and 2 giving him 20 points in his last 4 games to turn a 10 point deficit into a 1 point lead in the race for the Art Ross. Iceton had his best night since Halloween scoring 1 and adding 2 helpers. Gilbert had 2 assists, Bright, Murphy and Ryan all scored 1 and single assists went to Galland and Theuerkauf. That assist gives Dan 1 in the goalie scoring race, just 1 behind Grease for the lead. This means the scoring race, defence scoring race and goalie scoring race will all likely be decided in this game. Good stuff boys. Once again my pick is strictly based on gaining points on the leaders.

Flames 3 – Stars 3

Oilers (13-9-1) vs Jets (6-14-3) Season series tied 2-2

Could the Oilers steal some thunder from the Stars/Flames game. LeBlanc sits 2 goals behind Haverstock for the Rocket Richard trophy and Bent is only 3 points out of the scoring lead. If the two leaders have low scoring games one or both of these guys could sneak in and grab some hardware. Veinot netted a hatty and added an apple while LeBlanc also scored 3. Redden had 3 assists, Corkill 2 and 1 went to Bent, Daly and Mousek. The Oil are cemented into the 2/3 playoff matchup but with a win and a Stars loss they could gain the all important home ice advantage for the first round. Ross continued his fantastic season with 2 regulation goals and the shoot out winner. Graeme has 32 points on the season and the Jets have only managed 53 goals, he is involved in over 60% of the Jets goals. Messervey and Tracey each added an assist. Onto some big news the HRHL would like to thank Croke and Dukey for running the Jets. They have decided to pass the torch so we will have a new set of captains next season. Croke took over the Jets in 2021 and Peter joined him in 2022. Thanks for your efforts gentlemen. I don’t care how much money is at stake, I would rather lose than pick against my own team.

Oilers 6 – Jets 2

Shootout Scoring Race:

2 - Ryan
1 – Messervey, Manson, Flinn, Gilbert, Corkill, MacQueen, Hill, Bray, Billard, Ingraham, Ashley, Ross

Rookie Scoring Race:

31 – Gilbert
27 - Manson
21 – Iceton
15 – Newcombe
10 - Daly
9– O’Hearn

Side Notes:

Tried to get the Lions and Pack to move their game to 10pm so we could all watch the epic end to a season but the request was denied. Next year week 25 will not have any game times posted. We will flex important games to 10pm. Just like the NFL, you gotta cater to the audience.

You know you are getting old when you go to Moncton for a weekend and never step foot in Angies. I was in my hotel room at 9pm on Saturday night and decided to head home to beat the snowstorm that never came. Sad times men.

Matthew Tkachuk is an asshole. Germany needed to have a guy that would go out and cross check the teeth out of his head for the way he treated Draisaitl. I bet if Tristan Manson was on Germany Tkachuk plays different.

Tom Wilson got rag dolled by a French dude. I hope that guy is really a Canadian playing for France, Wilson will be chirped for that forever.

Canada looks great but I would love to see Logan Thompson between the pipes. Binnington lets in bad ones too often, France should never score on Canada.

They will still likely win.

Maybe Sweden knocks off the US.

Sunday morning at 9am for the gold medal, if Canada makes it beers are at my place, come early to ensure you get a seat. Not too early I will set my alarm for 8:45.

Bittersweet time of year, season ends for 2 teams this week, that sucks. This is the last time I need to do a write-up, that is fantastic. Some days it is tough to think of anything new to write.

10 guys have paid their money that means 17 have not. Also a huge warning to Timmy and Longo, if you haven’t paid by end of the games Friday you are not eligible to win, right now that would slide myself and Hartnett into the winner’s seat. Sound good Hartnett?

Weekly 3 stars……. The boys came to play edition

3. Venoit and Leblanc , matching hattricks in the oilers ass pounding of the pack last week. This two headed monster along with bent forms a lethal line that will be a handful come playoff time forever they face.

2. Ross, scores two in game and buries a shootout winner over the first place flames. Is this player the most underrated guy in the league?
Hard to say he isn’t as he’s had an MvP type year for the jets . Rumor has it he’s in negotiations with the stars to join the team for our Allan cup playoff run

1. Iceton and Havey
Rookie sensation scores 1 adds 3 assists and wins 69% of his faceoffs last week. This guy heating up nearing playoffs is a great sign for the stars. He’s got playoff performer written all over him .

Havey , 2 goals 2 assists in the stars big win. To be the man wooo you gotta beat the man woooo. This crane operating , high flying, Mercedes c300 driving lady killer is on a true heater. Wooooo
Great news for the stars wooooo!!!

Notes……..

- how can this be the last week of the season?
Man this year flew by, a great year!

- the women got a silver, gave it their all. Text book play teaching a defenceman though you gotta play the body on that winner.

- is it me or does Cassie Campbell look like a vampire from twilight. Man she looks rough

- pack or lions, who gets the last ticket to the big dance?

- Havey, Baxter or bent?
Who’s it gonna be?

- can Canada win without Crosby ?
Maybe this is passing of the torch to McDavid

- Olympics running out of condoms in the village
I’d be looking to drag a speed skater back to the room for sure
Lot of them are smoke shows

- NHL hockey is gonna look slow compared to the Olympics when it returns

- need Sam Bennett to rise up again

- all the major awards will be decided tomorrow night Stay tuned everyone

- it was a great year by all teams boys , great hockey !!!

Lions / ratpack…… same record , same head to head. I’ve played with a lot of the guys on both teams and I know how bad they all want it. I’ve got no clue who’s gonna win so I’m thinking this will come down to the wire.
So for that reason I’m saying a 2-2 tie

Stars/ flames…… this heated rivalry resumes, err wait I guess I can never use that title again after this fuckin show. Anyways the stars prevail 4-3 over the flames in the middle game . Havey rips two and Larry and Ryan score the goals and Dan shuts the door on the big line in the win

Oilers/jets …….. gotta play the odds here and pick the oilers to win 4-2 over the jets . Skin dog, bent , Leblanc and Venoit bulge the twine as they oilers prepare for playoffs on a winning note !!

Great season boys I’ve enjoyed writing this shit every week, about the best league in the city. Yes even the queer leagues that were rated higher then ours lolol
