| If you want to see some SERIOUS racing, come on Saturday (Feb 12th) to Winternats in Ft. Myers. Top level drivers from all over the World will be there. Our own Danny Horta made it to the A-Main from 1/8 scale in 2004. He was all the way up to 3rd and had a chance to win until he took a small tumble about halfway through which knocked him out. Had he finished chances are he would have won, cause he was faster than the winners. Saturday will be the A, B and C mains. Our own DJ Apolaro will be out there, hopefully he'll make it to Saturday's mains. I will be leaving early Saturday morning. Andy's going as well, but I'm not sure when he's leaving. This is a chance to see and meet World Class drivers in action. I'll be posting reports that I can find during the week. If anyone wants to Caravan let me know.

| Sedan UPDATE: After Round ONE DJ is in 6th place overall in 200mm. His times will need to improve however to stay in the A through the rest of the week. Looks like he ran out of fuel at the last lap, finished with 21. Serpent is looking incredibly strong. TQ is Paolo(23Laps), 2nd is Salven(23), 3rd is our Scotty Gray(22). Mugen isn't doing to shabby either. Mugen Driver Darren Ishitani is in 8th. Swauger was running with the leaders, but only finihsed with 8 laps. He's looking strong as well as he was in the lead and is tied with Paolo with the Hot Lap for round one at 13.1 sec. Could they hit 12 second laps later in the week? Maxy Velazco is currently in 7th, but will also need to make better times to remain in the A. FOr the Feel good Story of Round 1, our very own JOSEPH CHAPLOW won his heat and finished with 19 laps. That may get him into Saturdays mains. His fast times weren't bad, looks like he had a few bobbles. If he can get them more consistant he can prolly get 2 more laps which will give him very good placing. That would be awesome. More news as it developes.

| 1/8th UPDATE: Round 1 TQ SCOTTY GRAY!!!, 2nd Michael Salven, 3rd Mike Swauger. According to times, Swauger seems to be the fastest, but must have run out of gas. Swauger Was in the lead until the last lap. Finished with 24 laps on 4.47. Seemed to have enough time to get 2 more laps in. (He's running sub 12 second laps) Salven Looks fast too. But Scotty Gray managed to get TQ by .11 sec. There were other fast guys, but not too many at this level. More Updates later.

| Sedan UPDATE: Round 2 DJ Did not start. Salven and Scotty Gray DNS also. Paolo again hit 23 laps and is TQ Salven and Scotty remain 2 & 3. Mugen's Mike Swauger is looking fast but can't seem to finish. Seemed to run out of fuel with 2 laps remaining. Feel Good Story Update. Joe did 19 laps in 5.02. Had 2 bobbles that cost him 10 seconds. If he can manage 20 (or 21 would be better) laps, he has a chance to make Saturday's mains. (A,B,C) Keep it up Joe.

| 1/8th UPDATE: Round 2 Overall Standings - Marco Vinni(?) is new TQ, Scotty(DNS) 2nd, Salven 3rd, Swauger 4th. Round 2 was ultra competitive, with 9 drivers pulling 24 laps or better. Salven and Swauger were fastest, but both had troubles. Salven was in first but pulled DNF(12 laps) and Swauger seems to have crashed and lost a lap, still managed to finish with 24. Ted Hammer, last year's 3rd place winner, has moved up to 5th overall I believe. Looking a lot faster this year.

| yeah they just resealed the track, i heard tire wear is basically nothing, now if you get off line just a bit you still have excellent traction. seems like the track is much quicker. ralph burch tq'ed the event last year and he ran a 25laps in 5:01 pace. so they are already at that pace, wouldnt surprise me to see a 26 lapper really soon.

| Talked to DJ this morning. Says the track has awesome traction. He's been traction rolling on 40's. He did indeed ran out of fuel on that qualifier. Engine was running too rich. Says Serpent and Swauger are in a league of their own with the speed and times. Joe should have better luck when they rearange the qualifiers, he was stuck with some of the slower drivers which surely slowed him some. Good stuff...I can't wait until Saturday.

Quick update, Talked to Joe, he just pulled 20 laps in 5.04, that puts him at the edge of the C main. He traction rolled once and got smacked by a lapped car another time. He can still get 21 laps which will get him in the C almost surely, which would be AWESOME. Found out he's running his Serpent. DJ's been a GREAT help to him he says.

| Sedan UPDATE: Round 3 DJ Has Moved up to 5th overall Top 3 remain unchanged. Paolo Morgani(1), Salven(2), Scotty Gray(3) Mugen's Darren Ishitani(4), DJ(5) Maxy is just hovering around 10th after 21 laps in 5.03. Joe Should be somewhere between 17th and 30th, which could keep him in Saturday's mains. He needs to gain 4 seconds somewhere for 21 laps which would really help him.

| Joe Update. Competition got better yesterday. While he improved his times, so did other people. He's in 37th overall. If he can get 21 laps today he'll be in good shape to make the C. Maxy is just outside of the A in 12th overall. Johnny Wong is looking good in 23rd.
Salven set a new track record in 1/8th with 26 Laps. Crazy stuff. Haven't heard anything about today. I'll post it when I do.

| 1/8th Update. Last qualifier Swauger is TQ. Top 5 should be Swauger, Salven, Marco Vinni, Scotty Gray and Paolo Morganti.
(Danny will appreciate this most) Swauger got his times down to 11.3!!!! The remaining drivers aren't too shabby either. Rick V (2nd place in 2004) qualified 10th. If he wins the B he'll bump up to the A to round it off. This race is going to be sick.

| Sedan update: Salven and Scotty both jumped past Paolo. So it's Salven, Scotty, Paolo, Mugen's Ishitani, Rene Cornella (?), Swauger, DJ, Nick Dotson (RD Logics) Paul Coleman (Ofna) and Brandon McNally (Serpent)
Serpent is in a great position to take the entire podium, but Mugen's times have been just as fast. Paul Coleman is fast enough to take advantage of any mistakes. Nick Dotson is running the new RD Logics Mongoose/Richey Racing Engine platform. He struggled the entire week, but put it all together his final qualifier. He could make some noise as well. I dont know Cornella, but if he made it in the A he's no slouch. This will be close as hell.

| All I have to say is WOW!!!! what a great race and performance by Scotty and DJ. I think theres a song by phil collins "against all odds" and DJ really earned his position with talent and perseverance. It took alot of work on his part to do what he did. Remember he did his own mechanic work and all! I have never seen a driver excell so much in such a short period of time (nobody!) best of all both are local Royal Palm Raceway drivers (serpent country)
Hats off!

| Here's Mike Meyer's Sedan Report:
200mm A-Main The 200mm A-Main got off to a rough start in more ways than one. Michael Salven (TQ) grabbed the lead, but then crashed. Mikey Swauger took over the lead, and started pulling away from the other cars, but after only a few laps Robert Poage, the race announcer, called everyone back for a re-start – the computer didn’t start when the cars did. The next start was better, and Michael took off in the lead, followed by Mikey Swauger and Scotty Gray. Michael’s car didn’t seem to be acting right, and Mikey quickly got by and started pulling away, building up a nice lead. Paolo Morganti was in the middle of things, but his transponder wasn’t working properly, and nobody knew quite where he was – which seemed to be right near Scotty Gray. Scotty was driving quickly and smoothly, and building up a lead on the rest of the cars. The lap times tell it all – Mikey was in the range of 13.0 to 13.3 seconds, Michael was in the range of 13.2 to 13.5 seconds, and Scotty was in the range of 13.3 to 13.6 seconds. Mikey seemed to be on the road to repeat last year’s win of this class, when on lap #22 his car went dead with a blown clutch. With Swauger out of action, Scotty took over the lead, followed by DJ Apolaro, an electric racer who recently started gas racing. Michael Salven’s car seemed to be getting worse as the race went on, traction rolling quite often. Brandon McNally worked his way up to third place, and was trying to get by DJ when DJ spun out. Brandon hit DJ, and his car got spun around, only to get clobbered by Paul Coleman’s OFNA. DJ was OK, as was Paul, but Brandon’s car had the suspension on one side destroyed, and that was the end of his race. Rene Cornella, the designer of the Serpent 710, and Darin Ishitani, a new Mugen racer, were fighting for third place. Rene seemed to have third position tied down, but on lap #181, a few minutes before the end of the race, he suffered problems and had to drop out, allowing Darin Ishitani to take over third.
The finishing results were: Scotty Gray Serpent 710 D.J. Apolaro Serpent 710 Darin Ishitani Mugen MTX-3 Rene Cornella Serpent 710 Paul Coleman OFNA Hyper GPX4 Paolo Morganti Serpent 710 Brandon McNally Serpent 710 Michael Salven Serpent 710 Uriah Murnan Kyosho RRR Mikey Swauger Mugen MTX-3

| Here's Mike Meyer's 1/8th Report:
1/8 4WD A-Main This was the big one, the race everyone was waiting to see. Anyone near the track headed over to watch the 45-minute long battle.
The race got off to a good start. Mikey Swauger (TQ) took the lead, with Michael Salven right behind, followed by Scotty Gray. Mikey bobbled, and Michael got past, with the two of them starting to pull away from the other cars. On lap #7 Michael and Mikey tangled in the hairpin before the timing line, allowing Scotty to go by and take the lead. Michael took over second, but Mikey passed him on the next lap. (Eric's Edit: Salven took out Swauger on that turn and then waited for Swauger to pass him once the marshall got him rolling again. Great Sportsmanship) In nine laps Mikey caught up to Scotty, taking over the lead. Michael meanwhile seemed to be having problems. His car wasn’t handling right, and he got involved in several crashes. On lap #71 Scotty got into a crash, requiring a trip to the pits for repairs. On lap #73 Marco Vinni had problems, which took several laps to get sorted out. As the race neared the half-way point, Mikey had built up a two lap lead over the field. Michael came into the pits for repairs, and came back out. Mikey, who was just ahead of Michael, moved over to let Michael by, but Michael then crashed right in front of the driver’s stand. The positions seemed to be pretty stable for the second half of the race. On lap #122 Scotty got into a bad crash, taking him out of the race. On lap #148 Ted Hammer got into a crash, taking him out of the race as well. With about 10 minutes to go, Mikey’s engine went rich, and he came in for a tuning adjustment. With 8 ½ minutes left, Mikey’s car started to look a bit loose out on the track, and he yelled down to his pit crew to check the rear shocks. He came in, but his pit crew found that it was just the rear body mount that had gotten out of shape, which was quickly fixed. Mikey’s lead had dropped down to only one lap. Michael was now back out on the track, near Mikey’s car, and this time Mikey just put down the hammer and started putting in lap times like the ones he did early on in the race. Paolo Morganti was only one lap down on Mikey, and was doing his best to catch up, but on lap #190 his motor blew, taking him out of the race. As the race came to an end, there were only four cars out on the track, Mikey in the lead, followed by Chuck Moon, Marco Vinni, and Dave Campbell.
