| It's Xray's 1/18th Scale Electric Sedan. Andy had one at the track this weekend. The goal is to race these on days that we get rained out. Wait till Summer comes, it happens more than you think. We can race them under the cover at the track since they're so small. They're cheap and clean and pretty fun. www.teamxray.com

| Guys these 1/18 cars are very inexpensive and a-lot of fun. I was supprised when i first drove one how well they handled. They very inexpensive and i think it will help get more people involved with r/c since they can get started very easily. Also helps with learining race procedures and driving. Most important is rain days are fun as well! they are small FAST and you should keep one in your pit box just in case. Oh and no pit men needed.. Eric was suprised how fast they are when he first drove his.. I'm getting my mod engine..20 bucks hehe
just plain fun for everyone!

| I think andy can get em for you. Best mod is the carbon chassis for the 6 cell packs and the big motor. The stock chassis can fit it too, but needs a little modification. I managed to get the 6 cell pack on my stock chassis though, but only a standard size Modified motor. not the 300 size (Those are the fastest ones supposedly) THe car really is pretty simple, but there's like a ton of hop ups, but seeing as how we're going to race these as backup (I think) I'm not gonna go crazy over it.

| Andy what surface are going to use for these cars. Can you procure some comercial/office carpet. Also can we race with rubber tires. I have seen these things run and all you need is a stock motor with a 6 cell battery and you will have more than enough speed.

| Get a chassis, either Penquin, Motec or Xray. Modified speed 300 motor. United RC K3 is the motor I have and it's really fast. I also had a rabid chihuahua which was also fast but didn't last as long. Probably the most important thing is a good battery. GP1100 batts are prob the best out.
I agree with Eric but go crasy with it. You can just hang out with him and wish yours was as fast as mine. heeheehee crazy! crazy! crazy!

Yes, the kit is very cheap ($ 145.00), then gets tricky.
I sell on eBay, and it takes me up to this time of the night (and two more hours) to sort 30 or 40 daily's... So I dont like to bid on it because one more minute of looking at it will end on a seissure... The E word is forbiden.

| I have no idea. I have Soft, Medium and hard foams but i don't know which ones work best. I think my gearing now is 17t pinion and 42 spur, I think that's the common setup for the bigger engines. I don't think there's much else to setup on the car. i know there are optional arms to give less caster and less rear toe in, but they'reoption parts. I just wanna throw this thing on the track and run it

Entry #: 836070
| If you think that's bad, jsut wait till you have to take them out. If you try to take out the tires, use like a screwdriver and push down on the inside wheel, then pull off the tire. you can break the universal where the wheel screw goes.
|
| Juancho
May 8, 2005 11:29:17 AM

| That is exactly what I meant.... I even drilled a small hole in the middle of the wheel to make it easier... since you cant access the screw once the wheel is on.
I decided to order a few estra wheel bases to keep tire sets mounted instead of keep fighting with these things.

I have in mind to race at dave & busters night time. (full liqure bar and food!) and at our track in club house on rain days. I really like the dave & buster idea since it will draw more people to race at our track. what days are good for you guys so i can set it up? I was thinking wed nights??? any thoughts?

My idea was to form a group to race 1/18 on wed nights. If anybody has any thoughts on this let me know since i have to plan this out.

Anyone that's gonna get one of these just needs a few 6 cell packs and a 300/380 size motor and that's all you'll need. The Mamba will have this car flying off the track.
Only Juan and I had them ready to run so everyone took turns driving ours. Looks like rain outs won't be so bad after all.

I agree with Eric, anything over 370 will be a waste on a track designed for this scale.
Again, I was amazed to see how different the driving can be, it requires a lot more hands on and concentration, but the car handles awesome and I think it can help your driving A LOT for bigger scales.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND HAVEN'T GOT ONE OF THESE.... YOU'VE GOT TO. Perfect choice for a rained out events.

| Yeah those m18s are really fun. I will have a loop ready for the carpet track. I think these cars are strong and low maintenace. They really are super inexpensive and handle awsome. This will really help those who start off in the hobby to get used to driving so that when they run nitro they will understand how the car should handle. We should stick to 300 370 engines and 7volt packs as a general rule. This will be our stock class. right now i dont care run what you have until the group gets bigger.

| OK...been doing some research. Maybe those brushless systems, like the Mamba do make sense. Any 300 size motor will cost you between $15-$30. The ESC like a Novak SPY is another $50. With those brushed motors, you need to change the brushes every couple of runs, which is a bit of a pain. THe brushes are cheap ($3) But since there's not too many shops around here that support the micro scene it's a pain to get them. The brushless System will cost you $100, about $20 more that a good setup with Brush motors. If you run the lipo batteries they're way too fast, but if you run the 6 cell packs, I think they will be more controllable. I have emailed the people that make the Mamba to see what system configurations they recommend. I'll fill you guys in as soon as I hear. I think if we're going to start this up, everyone should have an understanding of what to look for and why. I'll keep you guys updated.

| I spoke with a Motek rep this morning, they do reccomend the bigger wheelbase for 300 engines and over, he said that the chassi is way more stiffer than the one I'm using now (Since the top plate is attached to all points Diff casing). It has a bit more space to accomodate the battery, servo and receiver (Which in my case was VERY tight) and is also lighter, comes with the engine mount, the servo saver, battery stap, shock retainer and bumper brace... I dont know, the thing just looks AWESOME.

If somebody cares to make an offer (The only thing I'm taking out is the AMD transponder), my X Ray has: Graphite chassi convertion kit, KO Propo 302F receiver (Crystals included chanel 89), Futaba S3101 Servo, XMC speed control with brake (Brake not instaled), Supersized 300 XRAY motor, Aluminum Adjustable Diffs (FR and Rear), 1200 Battery Pack, Alloy motor Mount, Oversize Aluminum Engine Heatzinc, Adjustable turnbuckles and Rear linkages (Not installed), Aluminum CVD (FR and Rear). Foam tires, Painted Body (Not trimmed).

| OK so here's my take on the types of setup options we have.
Stock Xray Powerpack Setup - 180 Size motor. Cheapest setup. This is nice for true beginners. The speed is enough with a 6 cell pack and the run time is great. The speed controler is limited to 180 size stock motors only, so you can't upgrade without buying a new speed controller. The Powerpack includes everything you need except the receiver.
300/370 Motor Setup - This is quicker than the 180 size motor. It's fast but still manageable. 6 cells give it good speed and decent run time, but the 180 will last longer. Maybe a lipo battery will give better run time. Motors are as cheap as $15 and up to $30ish if you want. But you do have to get a separate speed controller. Novak Spy is one of the popular ones. Xray also makes a nice one that fits the chassis well.
Brushless setup - Mamba - Crazy fast. 11V lipo is WAY too fast for the carpet. Traction Roll galore. Maybe the 7.4V battery will be more mangeable. 6 cell NiMh should be driveable, but you need good connectors for the motor to perform best. You need a Brushless specific speed controller. You can get a Mamba & it's Speed Controller for $99 about $20 more than a typical 300 setup. The nice thing of brushless is that they don't require much maintenance.
if we get enough people, I think we should have a Stock Powerpack class and then an open class with 6 cell packs to keep power even, but any motor you want to run. But let's see how much this grows first. Nitro is still #1 for me.

| All that being said, you can buy a Mamba setup for $85 THIS WEEK ONLY at www.b-p-p.com.
They're having a 15% off ANYTHING sale since they're closed this week. You get free shipping too, BUT the order won't go out until July 5th. SO if you want to wait a week to save $15. These people are cheap anyways, everywhere else these setups cost $125. I'm getting a Mamba 6800 and Kokam 7.4v 1500mAh Lipo pack. Remember, if you plan on getting a Lipo battery, you need a SPECIFIC charger to charge them. Not all chargers to. They have them on that site too. Get the good Dean's ULTRA plugs (Not the Micro ones) This is one of the keys to good performance. I'm getting enough to redo all my packs. OK, that's it.

| The simplier the Better, I think we should make a Semi Stock Class where only the Motor and Battery output are regullated... For sure anything above 380 is way too powerfull for a track this big.
We can also set a Power Class to Race the Mamba equiped cars (OPEN OUTLAW)... that should be fun.
I will totally forget about the stock-stock class, the difference in $$$ between a 180 and a 380 engine is way too small (Even for novices I think the 380 is driveable).
In any case... THIS THING IS A BLAST, and I can actually drive it a bit... jejejeje

| Well that's the thing. The Mamba "should" perform similar to a 300/370 when you run a 6Cell pack. The benefit is the less maintenance. So that's what makes the Brushless ideal. Controlling the power is the big concern.

| Hellooooo. The Mamba with 7.2 is always raced against 300 motors it is not considered outlaw. I say we forget classes and run for fun. Talking about classes now is a little premature, let get the people involved with any set-up first. The cost of the Mamba is lower than the 300 when you consider that they last much longer, $85-$99 gets you motor and speed control, and you really only need 1 battery cuzz they last much longer. With 6 cells you need at least 2 to have any fun. I charged mine once on Sunday and ran the whole time while everyone else charged 3 times.

It will be very smart to get a couple batteries since they last for about 5 minutes, unless your set up takes a 7 volt or something like that.
