Since we're getting more new guys at the track and on the Forum. Here's some body info to help you guys out. Stick to Touring bodies. If you stick with this hobby, it's what you'll be racing with. So it's better to learn with them. The cool thing I feel about touring bodies is that it makes this feel like "real" racing. I say this because with a Lola or Wedge body, just about any car will handle nicely. But with the Touring/Sedan body, they make you have to adjust your car just ENOUGH, where it make a difference on your times. I find the challenge fun. First, stay away from HPI bodies, they look awesome, but they don't handle well most of the time. That being said, here are the bodies that should work pretty well at the track.

Protoform:
Stratus 2.1 - Very Neutral Body. Easy to drive
Mazda 6 - Probably the most popular current body. A little more steering than Stratus 2.1
Nemesis - Similar to the Mazda. It's not legal at ROAR races. Which wont matter at our regular club races.
Cadillac CTS - Give A LOT of steering. Great on the Serpents and any car that needs a little more steering.
Stratus 3.1 - This one is New. I'm going to try it this weekend for the first time. Looks similar to the Mazda. I'll report how it feels.

That's all my experience with bodies. I tried two HPI's and didn't like them at all. If anyone has anything to add go ahead and do so and try to give a little detail what you felt.

yeah none of this makes any sense until you can (FEEL) how the body drives. I suggest driving a neutral body for a long time ..say a month build muscle memory to that body then when your really used to it change the body to another style and you will notice the difference when you drive the new body.

p.s. that applies to drivers that are starting out and need to learn to (feel) the drive. experrienced drivers will notice right away when they drive a new body.

Not very much, I only got about 5 minutes of track time and I was trying to tune the engine a bit and the track was loose. So it wasn't a good test. But it felt pretty good under those conditions. I'll try it again this weekend.

I went to atomic hobbies to get some spare parts to my HPI(which will go to ebay pretty soon) that I had ordered before I got the serpent, and bought the new stratus... let's see what's going to be at the track!!!

OK got to test the Stratus today. I like it more than the Mazda on my Mugen. It gives more steering AND a more stable rear end. I don't know how, but that's the effect it had for me. It also gave me enough downforce to give me the same lap times when using 37 AND 40 shore tires. So I think it's worth the try.

Talking about bodies... it is amazing how different can they be... I was frustrated on practice today and couldn't get any better than 20's or 21 flats with the Mazda body (Sometimes worse).

I didnt want to use the Cady body being so nice and just painted, but once I let go of it I was able to turn 19's right away...

I'll say I had a NICE practice day overall.
