The Conrod is the connecting rod of the engine. It is not uncommon to have to replace a conrod in any engine. It's jsut for some reason, the ones on the Mega 12 need to be replaced more often. From what i understand there is a new conrod in the works that should eliminate the problem. THe manual recommends changing it every 5-8 hours of runtime, but the current trend is 2 hours at most. However, there are some guys, like Andy, that haven't suffered any conrod failure and have at least 5-6 hours on it. SO take it as you will. Mine is getting to about 2 hours on it, so we'll see how long it goes.

For those considering the Mega but are a little hesitant due to conrod failure, the new batch of engines will have a new conrod that has fixed the problem. The rod alone will also be available for those of you with the engines already.

It could cause major damage, or it could cause no other damage. It's pretty random. It could cscratch the sleeve so you'd have to replace that too. I've even seen pictures of engines (not the mega) with a broken conrod sticking out of the side of the crankcase. It kinda depends on your luck

So do you guys play it safe and replace it before it breaks or do you wait until it breaks????

You'd want to change it before it breaks. The new batch of engines reportedly has them already. It's on it's way along with the conrods.

There's no answer for you buddy, the engines aren't in the USA yet, so no one has seen them locally. If they got it to the recommended 5-8 hours of life that should be acceptable, We'll have to wait and see. Since you're learning you might want to consider a Novarossi based engine for your first high end engine. It will be a little more maintenance free and prolly a little easier to tune for you. The REX RER 3port is pretty solid as is the Novarossi NSR12. All three of the engines will be give you plenty of power. Probably too much than what you'll be ready for. Are you gonna make it out there this weekend? You should try to go. If I see you, I wouldn't mind helping you a little. Just get those foam tires :) Look for me, I'm the one with the old lady shopping cart. (Trust me, you'll know)

Yah im gonna try and get out there this weekend. But I wasnt planning on getting this engine or the serpent for a while. I Have onley been to the track twice!!!

Plus its REALLY EXPENSIVE and i wont be able to get the money for at least 6 months.
I want to get good with my HPI RS4 and learn with that car before i move up to somthing more serious like the serpent.

Yeah don't worry. You still have lots to learn. Even though it's an RTR, you can be fast enough to have fun at the races, you just might need to work a little harder. And don't get discouraged about breaking stuff. It happens to EVERYONE, trust me. You just need to work at it. Remember the foam tires. that's where you need to start.
