Googley's rampant posting (j/k) bumped the last Summer Series thread to page 2 so I'm starting a new one. :P

The Summer Series will probabaly start on the 26th of the month. That gives us enough time for 5 races before the end of August. The races will be every 2 weeks. Since it's the Summer and we're always threatened with sudden rains. If we get rained out, the race will be rescheduled for the following week. So there may be a time when we have 2 weekends in a row of racing. So be prepared for that. Andy will be posting the set schedule shortly.

There will be racing for drivers of all abilities. Novices, now's the time to get involved. I promise, once you take part in your first race you'll be hooked. For you more experienced guys, this is the only racing we'll have until the State Series starts at the end of the year. Let's try and make a good showing. For those of you that don't know. This is a Points type series. So attending all (or at least 4) of the races is important. Last season, the Summer Series winners received a Maxy's Fuel half-sponsorship. In DJ's case it helped open the door to his Serpent USA sponsorship. (Which has since taken him to A-Main finishes in Texas and Las Vegas as a Serpent USA driver!) So let's get ready and keep the Summer racing going. See you all soon.

The top 3 racers got the prizes. Two of them could be considered novices. It was the first time DJ and myself had raced in over 10 years. The guy that got first had been at it for awhile so we were both getting the hang of it again. I was just starting with an MTX3 with a basic MT12 engine. Nothing too crazy.

That would be great if we could get some 1/8th scalers to join in the Summer Series. If they only want once a month, They can get 3 races out of the Summer Series if they start on the 26th. I hope we have good Summer weather this year, at least on Sundays, it can rain the rest of the week for all I care :P

For the newcomers to the track that plan on racing, I forgot to add on the flyer that Personal Transponders are required to race. This is how your laps are counted by the computer. Everyone at the track has them. You can by them directly from the company site. They're $89, I know it's not cheap, but it's what's used EVERYWHERE when you race. So if you're going to start doing State Series races for example, you'll need it. It ships from Georgia so it only takes a few days to get here. Below is the direct link to the site where you can purchase the transponder. Don't wait till the last minute to get one. :)

Race #1 is only a week away! We have a bunch of new members that are interested in racing. In combination with our older guys we should have a great group for this Summer. Remember, this is a Series with your 4 best races out of the 5 counting for the Series Points. Racer participation is key here. I know everyone can't make it to all the races, but it's been shortened up with the best 4 of 5 format. Remember, the more racers, the more competition, the more FUN! In case of any rainouts, plan on racing the following week.

Rain outs will not be a total loss for all. For anyone interested, we will be racing 1/18 scale cars under the cover if it rains. Andy will have a timing loop ready to go also, so it will be real racing. We had a track setup yesterday. Those carpet tiles are pefect. the carpet goes up and down in about 10 minutes with a few guys. And we can make a new layout any time we want. 6 Cell packs and 300/380 size motors are perfect for this small carpet setup.

Track will be ready by 10am and racing will begin at 12pm sharp. So everyone get there early. Remeber, the sooner we get cars on the track, the better the traction will build up for when the racing begins. See everyone next week!

For those of you that don't have transponders, don't forget to order them early this week. If you order monday or tuesday you should get it in time. Call them to be sure, that's what I did and got it in 3 days. I posted the link above. Most Miami shops DO NOT carry these in regular stock, so don't plan on finding them there easily.

Mike, bring your m18 also, there are plenty of chargers we can charge your packs thoughout the day until we get to the M18's. The more we can get on the track the more fun it will be. Hell, even 2 cars was a blast.

Oh and David, you're in trouble. When Andrew drives the M18 on the carpet one he's going to harass you until you can't take it anymore and buy one. We put down the carpet track this weekend since the Enduro was rained out and had a blast just driving 2 of them around.

Ok Joe, that's a weak excuse. You have a break in bench, that should only take you about an hour or 2 on Saturday. Second, the only racing going on this Summer is our series, so why do you need 3 engines broken in and ready to run? There's no 1/8th scale racing going on either. All I hear are reasons why you can't race...sounds like excuses. What's the matter? Scared? :P Come on. Cut the crap and get out there :)

Speaking of 1/8th racing, talk to that group and see when then want to come race. There are 2 Race dates in July, maybe they could come to one of those.

Joe, I think if you can get those guys to race the 1/8th at our track it's the best thing for you. You know most of them are so experienced that you're not going to beat them. So what you need to practice on is just driving that car. They do drive different and they have so much power that these races are perfect for you since you'd have no pressure. On top of that you'll be racing with experienced drivers so you don't have to worry about being hacked (for the most part)It's not like it's a state series and you're spending money on a trip and all that extra stuff. These are a perfect time to get the experience down. That way you won't be unprepared when the State Series starts. Talk to those guys and see when they want to race. Do you have contact info for them? I could help you organize them if you want.

for sure i am going to get that setup. with work and all, i am just sure time trying to get set up for the nationals. but once the nationals are over, i am going to put the 1/8th scale thing together. last weekend i spoke to jauquin (wakeem) and his son, they both confirmed they would race once a month. art also confrimed again. i have spoken to jerry and he is in. i am not positive on Ed because he has school issues and all... but he said maybe. but i am definitely going to get the ball rolling on the 1/8th scale.

Eric,

How does the point system work?

Eric G

June 23, 2005

Entry #: 913094
Nothing too crazy. You can see some of the older results to get an idea.

The points are based on final position in the mains. A Main Winner gets 110, 2nd 108,3rd 107, etc. If you're the Top Qualifier on the day you get 1 extra point. The totals will come from your best 4 races. So this allows you to have a bad race where nothing works out for you OR if you can't make it to a race. This is the first time we make it 5 races. We did 6 before, but it was hard for some of the guys to make it to 5 races and also the Series would last 3, maybe 4 months if we had to reschedule any races. At least here we'll be done the 2nd week of August which is good for any dads who's kids start school soon after OR for any guys that we have that will start school shortly after that.

The Series has also been scheduled around 4th of July since that is usually a dead weekend. (LIke Memorial day) There's only national level race on the same day as ours (race #2), but only the Serpent guys will be missing. (I only think DJ and maybe Scotty will be coming to some of the races anyways)
Remember everyone, if we get rained out, plan on racing the following weekend.

For the new guys. Don't worry there's all kinds of levels of guys racing. If you're hesitant, just show up and race, it's actually easier than practice. You're more focused and so is everyone else. Who knows you might do better than you think. I started this last year during the Summer Series and managed to be pretty competitive. I wound up placing 2nd in the Summer Series points. Andrew also started out then and he's gotten pretty fast too (2nd in the May Trophy Race) Showing up to race and just finishing is key. After that, the speed will come quickly. Remember, if it helps, think of this as a fancy game. If you have fun with this, you will get better quicker. Take it serious enough to be prepared, but not too serious where it ruins your day if you don't do well. And remember, everyone is always willing to help at one point. Someone may not be able to help all day long, but everyone usually helps everyone out in one way or another.

I'm excited. I haven't races since the May race. My stuff is ready to go. See everyone this weekend.

But now, for every other race AFTER this, if we get rained out again, the race will be the following weekend. This is just an exception because of the holiday.

Guys today unfortunately was a rain out. Water and more water. I left the computer connected since Sat so it was all ready to go Sunday (race day). The weather has killed our last 2 races! The enduro was a rain out and so was the first summer series race.
The good news is we have more members and this gives some of the guys a little time to get it together and race. The Summer Series is still open. I am going to have to push the series forward since I dont want to start it on the 4th of july weekend. I will start it the week after and extend or add a race to the end of the series.
This 4th will be practice and a seminar is schedualed with Art Carbonel for that weekend.

We will also hold more organized practice on saturdays. Erick and I will help all others beginers, novice or experts. The practice will be organized more with specific goals. This way we practice with a goal in mind. Most experts and team drivers practice with a specific goal. I would like to see more people spend their time more efficiently on the track and I think this practice method is good for that.
Guys get it together since the race gods have giving you a chance to get your cars ready and get in on the summer series.

On another note the rain did not stop all racing! We set-up the carpet once again for the 1/18th and had a blast! That was some really close racing and
great practice as well. Guys these little 1/18 cars are very fun and teaches alot. Plus they dont break! The driving is intense as it gets. I love these little 1/18th scale cars because i see it improving everyones driving skills tremendously. It really does help in the throttle control area.
(Right Eric?) LOL

Guys if you have a 1/18th scale bring em out.

see everyone next week. practice sat and sunday.

Like Andy says, I'm going to be spending more time at the track with him trying to help people out as best as I can. DJ has done this before and I know he's been able to help. I don't have all the answers but I think I can help get some of the new guys pointed in the right direction. And even help some of the experienced guys fine tune some things. I think I can help best with car setup and a little bit of driving. Engine tuning is something that I'm confortable with when it's my engine, but not so comfortable with other people's engines, I can help you ballpark your engine tuning, but I'll leave the fine tuning to someone else.

We have TONS of guys practicing and it's time they start racing. It's SO much better than practicing and really once you do that first one, the others only get easier. Andy and I are going to try to get practice days a little more organized so people are actually learning and improving, instead of just running laps. See everyone soon.
