| a locked front will act like a one way on power, but off power it won't give as much steering and will give better brakes. I think it's better suited on high traction tracks. Front diff will give more steering and better braking, but might be slower though fast sections. I think a front diff is used more in low traction conditions with tight turning. The one way obviously has less braking but rolls more freely through turns and acts like a solid axle on power.

| A major benefit of a ONE-WAY is how it responds when you power out of a turn. Powering with a GEAr or BALL DIFF might cause the inside wheel to spin, and that also causes a loss of drive to the outside wheel that still has traction. A ONE-WAY locks up when your on the throttle, so it dosent matter if the inside wheel slips; the outside wheel will have 100 percent positive drive, thus the car will accelerate much harder out of turns.

| It depends on the track. at the old RPR we all ran one ways.
some guys that i have talked to at other tracks love the locked one way or the ball diff wherever he ran. he mostly ran a ball diff with the serpent. I think we will have to see what type of track we get for the new RPR. only then can we see. Also, its all about personal preference. I personally liked the one way on the serpent (unlocked) it ran good at the old RPR. i ran a diff in my old NTC3 and i didnt like it.

| C'mon dude, there's tons of places to get that answer. You just gotta look a little harder. No one races with your car enough to give you the answer. But in 3 MINUTES of just looking on HPI's site I was able to gather this info. Maybe you should try looking at the site too. The front diff on your car is a gear diff. But it doesn't look as if it uses oil. Maybe just some black grease for resistance. Normally, to make a gear diff harder, you put thicker oil in it. There's even this "putty" type stuff that they put in some gear diff's to lock it up. On Mugen's gear diff, you remove all the gears and put an insert inside that locks up the outdrives. You can try to put a heavy oil in yours and see if that helps. Try 100,000 wieght oil, that might make it tight. But since it's not intended to have oil in it anyways, it might leak out. Here's a diagram of your diff. It's on page 17 of your manual... http://www.hpiracing.com/graphics/instr/nit3evo/Nitro3EVO_17.jpg
Why do you want to lock up your front diff? You've barely taken that car to the track to tune it. How do you know locking the diff would make it drive better? Before you go crazy doing strange mods to an RTR, you really need to get out and drive. It's been mentioned in other threads, but every two weeks, a group of us are going to Go Racing in Broward. It's a nice small track that's easy on the cars with lots of different skilled drivers. And there's a shop right next to the track, so if you break something, you can get spares. You really should go out there. We'll all be there on Sunday. You really do need to just get out and drive.
