| Here's a brief report written up by Mike Myers about the race. I took out the Outlaw and Masters reports:
1/10 Sedan Gas Touring: TQ Barry Baker had board problems early on, lasting only ten minutes berore he was out. Paul Ciccarello lasted 23 laps. Mike Blackstock went 30 laps before he tangled with another car, and retired with broken parts. Meanwhile, Josh Cyrul had developed a huge lead, putting a lap and a half over second place Paolo Morganti, but about half way into the race Josh's one-way locked up, resulting in a lenghty pit stop. Paolo Morganti took over the lead, and cruised to a win. Dan DeBenedictis finished second, and Jari Taskila took third. Paolo's fastest lap was a 19.170 on lap #87. Josh's fastest lap was a 19.113 on lap #11. TQ Barry Baker's fastest lap was a 19.682 on lap #6.
1/8 4WD: Josh Cyrul got the lead at the start, and was more or less holding his own when he brushed a board and spun out. Paolo Morganti took over first, and Josh found himself back in third. Josh caught up to the leaders, and took over, and once again seemed to have clear sailing to a win. He had a six-second lead when a "mysterious radio glitch" took him out of the race. Ralph Burch had the fastest car, but Ralph's engine went ka-boom before the start, and Mark Blackketter never had enough time to get the replacement engine dialed in - it wouldn't run even four minutes on a tank, which resulted in several flame-outs. Ralph managed to work his way up to third place, and was trying to get by for second place when time ran out. Paolo meanwhile ran a good race, had no problems, and scored his second victory at this event. Paolo's best lap was 17.321 on lap #28. Josh's fastest lap was 17.324 on lap #25. Ralph Burch had the fastest lap of the entire event, putting in a 17.148 on lap #114.
It was a fun event, run by real r/c enthusiasts. Everything about the race was first-rate! The only complaint that I'm aware of, is that the 1/10 scale guys thougth the 1/8 scale racers got more practice time - but then I also heard that the 1/8 scale racers thought the 1/10 guys got more practice time! The bottom line, is with 180 racers this event was way crowded, but it worked out anyway! Thanks to all the people who made this race possible, and to those who attended!
