My grandsons (11, 12 and 15 years old) are visiting for Christmas and just arrived yesterday. As we drove by the park on Friday evening we saw the newly installed lights beaming down on the new street hockey rink. We even drove by in the parking lot and saw 10-15 people playing, both adults and kids. This was at around 8 pm on Friday evening. My grandsons play hockey back home and were excited to be able to play here while they were in town. We even went and bought them sticks today that they would use when they visit here.

On Saturday morning I actually went to the park and talked to a gentleman (I believe he was a coach for one of the teams) about playing there in the evening. He stated that the rink is open to anyone as long as there isn't a league game or practice happening. He even showed me the button on the wall that turns on the lights and how it works with the flashing light. So today we get there at around 6 pm and it's all dark. We figured we were the only people there. As we walked down to the rink they're were probably ten people down there milling around with sticks, all wanting to play. So I went over and pressed the button - NOTHING! One of the kids ran over and said they had tried as well and that for some reason the lights were disabled.

So is this normal? Are only a "select few" allowed to use this great community asset? Want to know something really sad? As we walked away several of the kids began to walk away as well. They were probably 15-17 years old. They mumbled how they were now going to go up and "Hang on the Blvd." You think that the "powers that be" would want the neighbor kids doing something constructive to keep them out of trouble, like playing hockey on this nice rink.

Hope to hear from someone on here soon.

Hi my understanding about the lights r that they r set on a timer for practices and games...there r times that the rink is open and light t on... but the only way to keep the lights going at that time is to hit the button...but once they r turned off they can not be turned back on until the next scheduled game.
