Bryan Sinclair rushed for 108 yards on five carries and five touchdowns to lead No. 1 St. John the Baptist (7-5) over No. 3 Xaverian (5-5) in the CHSAA Class A championship game. Sinclair scored two of his five touchdowns on punt returns. "He showed his athletic ability today," coach Keith Schweers said. "He played the way we''ve always known he was capable of playing and he picked the right game to do it." Sinclair finished with 132 total return yards. This is St. John the Baptist''s second championship title in four years. "I''m very proud of this team," Schweers said. "The coaches have worked very hard. These past four years really puts us back on the map and these guys deserve it." Running back Lawson Prendergast rushed for 68 yards on six carries and one touchdown in the championship game. He also recorded one sack on defense. "He''s a football player on both sides of the ball," Schweers said. "He''s been dominant the last two years. He''s been getting some I-AA offers from colleges. He''s a great player." Quarterback Jose Guzman completed two of three passes for 66 yards and one touchdown. Running back Jonathan Wiswall rushed for 52 yards. The defense remained resilient in the game. Edwin Bizarro had one interception. Jamal Butler recorded one sack and led the defense with nine tackles. Butler was announced as the defensive MVP of the game. “Butler brings a level of play to each game that is incredible,” Schweers said. Sinclair received the MVP award for offense. “Bryan is a great athlete and can change any game at any given time.” It was a long road to the championship game, but Schweers is grateful to everyone who encouraged his squad along the way. "I''m extremely proud,” Schweers said. “The coaches have worked very hard. I''m proud of the administration led by our athletic director Ralph Dalton. He''s done an incredible job.”
