Cubs win another thriller in the 9th
Dave Valdez allowed only 2 hits and 2 earned runs thru 7.1 innings to keep the Matanzas lineup at bay. The bullpen couldn't strand the inherited runners allowing Matanzas to tie it 4-4 in bottom of the 8th on a wild pitch and an error. But for the 2nd week in a row, the Cubs would rally in the 9th for the victory.
Jake Alba (4-4,2b,rbi,r) and Stephen Birkett (2-4,r,rbi) hit 2 out singles to set the table for Kirk Mayer (2-3,2b,hbp,2rbi) . Kirk hit a long 2b to the fence in right center, chasing home both runners.
