Angels Win Big
The day didn't start out well as the teams arrived at Westlake High to learn that a sprinkler malfunction had flooded the field. Luckily, Jack Provost was able to reschedule us to Valley on short notice and we got to play. The Grays started out well, scoring one run in the first and retiring the Angels 1-2-3 in the bottom half. But the Angels bats came alive in the second, scoring 7 runs then 4 more in the fourth to take a commanding 11-2 lead. From there on Angels starter Jess Whitehill cruised to the win, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits thru 6 before giving way to Billy Johnson who gave up one run on no hits over the last 2 innings. Angels offense had a field day, amassing 24 hits, led by 3-4 hitters Tim Hopkins (4-5, triple, rbi) and David Loyola (5-5, sac fly, 5 rbi) while Blakey, Pelter, Castro, Johnson Collins and Tipton each had 2 knocks. The Angels defense was excellent, making only 2 errors and cutting down a runner at home on a relay from Blakey to Tipton to Pelter.
