'Hounds escape in a barnburner
With the tying run at 2nd and just 1 out in the last of the ninth, Greg Frey pitched the Rockhounds to victory, retiring the final two Bucs hitters on lazy flies to center. The Bucs chased the Hounds all day and kept the game tight with aggressive bats.
To aid his gutsy effort in the complete game, Frey went 3-5 at the plate with a run scored, two doubles, an RBI and a stolen base. Hunter Smit went 3-5, stole 2 bags, and scored 3 runs. Danny Gilbert was an impossible out, notching 4 hits on the day.
Both teams played well enough to earn the win. For the Bucs, Jon Scheuerman went the distance and kept Hounds hitter guessing all day while the heart of the Bucs' order knocked the ball around deftly.
