Stallions make it 3 in a row with 3 double plays!
Batting the full 15 man line-up, all but 2 of the first 15 reached base to plate 7 runs in the first two innings for the Stallions. The Stars came back with 1 in the 4th after Rick Levy singled, stole 2nd, moved to 3rd on a passed ball and scored on Rosenberg's sac fly. The Stars added two more in the 5th on a difficult pop back of 1st base by Mel Levine. The Stallions added a run in the 8th on Jeremy Infranca's bases-loaded single. The feisty Stars countered with 2 more runs in the 9th. Then they loaded the bases and brought the go-ahead run to the plate in Adam Nicholai, who scorched one down the third base line. Sean Lang, who had at least two such grounders explode in front of him due to a snail crossing the infield, grabbed it and stepped on third to button down the game. Another complete game gem by Stallions starter Carlos Ponce, who faced only 14 batters through the first 4 innings, led the the Stallions defense, starting 2 of the 3 double plays, as well as driving in the 1st Stallion run in the first. Left fielder Mark Kaeller chased down two hard-to-reach flyballs and centerfielder Mike Morgan turned a base hit off Umland's bat in the 7th into a fielders choice by gunning out Rosenberg, who had singled previously, at 2nd. Mario Mora positioned himself perfectly to handle right field bloops, and the infield defense was nearly flawless. Mike McCann came alive with a solid 3-3 day, lining ropes on all three at-bats, and Mike Morgan reached base all 3 at-bats with a pair of singles and a walk. David Chambers and Jeremy Infranca both had multi-hit games. Stars pitcher Dale St. John settled down after the first two innings and held the Stallions to only one more run through the next 6, but the damage had been done. A solid all-around team effort gave the Stallions their third victory in a row.
