Colts Come From Behind
With the Stars jumping out to a 6-1 lead and Stars pitcher, Dave Livergood stymieing the 45s offense, it seemed that the Stars would cruise to victory. Stars leadoff hitter, Rick Levy, seemed to get on and steal at will and scored three of the Stars seven runs. The Stars defense also came up big with a couple of outfield assists to quell a couple of would-be 45's rallies.
Dave Noll pitched better than his line looked as his defense was not stellar and a couple seeing-eye grounders plated some runs. However, from the fourth on, the 45s rag-tag bullpen yielded no earned runs and kept the team in the game.
The top of the eighth started with a seemingly innocent E5 off the bat of Gary Cozine (2-4, 3SBs, 2Rs, 1 huge RBI) and a rally ensued, with the Colts pulling within one. Top of the ninth started with a hit, and E6 and beautiful sac bunt from Mark Freeman. Cozine singles to right with a drawn in infield, Ernie Johnson (back from the dead) was intentionally walked, followed by another walk to Elliot Reinfeld to put the 45s in the lead. Next up, Jonny Macks, who announced his retirement in the sixth, swats a bases loaded double to put the Colts up 9-6.
Jade Devitt picks up the W, closing out the ninth, but not without losing his control for a few batters. Another great game of baseball by all who participated.
The Stars and 45s face off in the first round of the playoffs. The Colts look to avenge last year's defeat to the defending champs.
