Tigers almost waste Thorne gem
For the third game against the Rockhounds this season, the Tigers built a big lead only to watch it evaporate in the late innings of a hot morning at East Valley HS.
Rudy Beltran led off the 3rd with a walk and 4 singles, a double, a triple and another walk later, the Cats had a comfortable 9-0 lead.
After 5 shutout innings by Thorne, the Rockhounds struck back with 4 in the 6th and 4 more in the 8th then tied it in the top of the 9th with a solo run.
Stefan Marks was the hero in the bottom of the frame, beating out an infield chopper with the go-ahead run on second. When the throw got away, the Cats had pulled out another squeaker.
