Stallions hold off Cardinals
The Stallions jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings, added an insurance run in the 8th and held off a late surge by the Cardinals to win 7-3. Jack Sanchez pitched an inspired 6 innings of shutout ball. Starting off rocky with two hits by the first two batters he faced, he allowed only one more hit through the next 6 innings. The Cardinals broke through in the 7th against reliever Joey Martino, who managed to restore order in each of his three innings. The Stallions "A" team showed up defensively; the only miscue coming on a throw down dropped third strike in the 9th that was followed by an inning- (and game-) ending double play. Mike Morgan, Carlos Garcia and Manny Alvarez had multi-hit games while Sean Lang drove in a pair of runs. Garcia missed a third hit when he was thrown out at first on a solid drive to right. Perhaps a bit too solid... Cardinal workhorse Rick McGaughey went the distance, settling down after the first two innings and holding the Stallions to just one more run after that. Always in the zone, Rick surrendered but a single walk in 8 innings. A superb pitching demonstration by all three pitchers.
