Bruins Take Rubber Game in Nail-Biter
The top two teams in the division battled down to the wire in the finale of the regular season. The Bandits used small ball and a dominant pitching performance by Jeff Gould to carry a 1-0 lead through 7. Bruin starter Dave Noll and super-reliever Bill Brown matched Gould out for out, only surrendering one unearned run between them. The Bruin bats finally came to life in the 8th, as Jade "MVP" Devitt (4-5, 2 Runs, 3 SBs) drove in the tying run, stole second, and then scored the go-ahead run. The scrappy Bandits used a walk and a bobbled ball in the Cleveland outfield bog to tie the score in the bottom of the ninth, only to have the Bruins answer back with 4 hits in the top of the tenth to take a 4-2 lead. Staying true to form, The Bandits fought till the last out, moving the tying runs to 2nd and 3rd with two outs. A spectacular sliding, backhand stop up the middle, followed by a laser throw to 1st by Jason Swink ended the game and secured the win for Robert Lewis, who pitched 3 great innings surrendering only an unearned run.
