Wow ... Archer 3-run bomb in the 10th propels Cubs!
The Pirates had scored 2 runs in the 1st on a Albert Ojeda 2-run double, and scored 3 more in the 4th on two based loaded walks and a fielder’s choice. The Cubs scored 8 runs in the first 4 innings, keyed by 2-run singles by Neil Medina and Adam Rose. 8-5 Cubs through the 4th, and then the 5th, but then the Pirates scored 4 runs in the 6th keyed by a Mike Stanislawski single, and a 2-run triple by Ojeda to take a 9-8 lead. The Pirates added a couple of unearned runs in the 7th to take a 11-8 lead, and Pirates hurler Rich Brito was looking sharp, only allowing 1 run in innings 4 through 8. Then the Cubs needing a 3-run 9th to tie the game, do just that at 11-11 as 2 errors, and a hit batter loaded the bases, and then Rex Camphuis singled in a run and Tree Hirsh singled in 2 more. The Cubs win this amazing, see-saw affair on a 2-out, 10th inning 3-run homer by Ben Archer .... wow! For the Cubs, Jonathan Williams hurled the final two frames of zeroes to pick up the victory. What a great game by two very good classy teams!
