After trading big innings, Tribe score 3 in 3 straight for W
The Indians got off to a fast start, scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the first on the back to two big hits. Chaz Ruth hit a bases-clearing double to put the Indians up 3-0 and Rick Thompson punctuated the inning with a 3-run homer. The Cubs wasted little time erasing that deficit. They scored 8 runs on 5 hits and 5 walks in the top of the 2nd inning to take the lead. Ray Smith had 2 singles in the inning, with his latter single knocking in 2 runs and giving the Cubs an 8-6 lead. After neither team scored in their next at bat, the Indians continued using the big hit to score runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Craig Holman smacked a bases-clearing double to give the lead back to the Indians at 9-8. They would extend the lead by 3 more in the 4th on a Thompson RBI single and another Holman double, this time scoring 2 runs. The Cubs got within 2 runs in the top of the 5th, scoring 2 runs when a grounder to first was booted with the bases loaded. The Indians immediately extended the lead to 5 runs on a bases loaded walk and a 2-run single by Cory Goshorn. The Cubs would get no closer as neither team scored in the last 2 innings. In total, the Indians scored 13 of their 15 runs on 5 clutch hits to take home the win.
The Indians' Ryan Chataginer and the Cubs' Ray Smith led all batters with 4 hits each. Holman and Thompson both had 5 RBIs, and were among the 5 Indians with 2 hits, including Brendon McGirr, Ruth and Goshorn. For the Cubs, Shane Beck, Andy Rager and Dave Warfel collected 2 hits.
