Wahoos shutout Cubs, scoring 4 runs in an inning three times
The Blue Wahoos were ready to start the season! The first 5 batters in the top of the 1st inning reached base, with 3 doubles and 2 singles, leading to 4 runs. Bill Rexroth stymied the Cubs over 4 shutout innings for the win, allowing 6 hits with 2 strikeouts. The Wahoos added 4 more runs in the 5th, keyed by a Shawn Kilburn 2-run single, and 4 runs in the 6th, including a Rexroth 2-run single, to put the game out of reach. Phil Polakoff and Jason Fetrow finished the shutout.
Shane Beck had a pair of singles to lead the Cubs. Kilburn and Ben Knouse were both 3-for-3 to lead all hitters. The Blue Wahoos' Randy Pepo was also perfect with a single, 2 walks, 2 RBIs, and a run. Roger Andras, Tracy Fuller, and Sean Englert also contributed 2 hits each in the win.
