Royals toss 5-hitter and pull away late to beat Blue Wahoos
The Royals got on the board first with the generosity of the Blue Wahoos' fielders. They scored an unearned run in the 1st on a Nick Collette sac fly, then another unearned run in the 3rd on a Zach Sternberg RBI single. After being blanked for 3 innings, the Blue Wahoos tied the game in the top of the 4th on a 2-out, 2-run single by Bill Rexroth. The Royals took the lead right back when Neal Landis led off the 4th with a double, moved to 3rd on a single, and scored on a Jorman Mora sac fly. Nick Collette entered the game in the top of the 5th for the Royals and issued a leadoff walk, but then retired 9 of the next 10 batters--one reached on an error in the 7th--to secure the win for Alex Nova and collect the save for himself. The Royals were able to add a little cushion to their 3-2 lead with 3 runs in the 5th, keyed by a Jorman Mora 2-out, 2-run double. Then they added 2 more in the 6th. The Royals' Ricky Habel led all hitters with 3 hits. Zach Sternberg notched 2 hits in the win.
