Biser walk-off double gives A's 4-3 win over Orioles
Barely after the umpire yelled "Play ball!", the Orioles had a 2-0 lead. Will Graves led off the game with a single and scored on Curt Zimmerman's double, who scored himself on a Bryan Hemcher ground out. That would be the last runs allowed by A's starter Dan McWilliams. The A's threatened in the 3rd inning when they loaded the bases with 1 out. The Orioles cut down the first run at home on a grounder to 3rd for a 5-2 putout, but were unable to get the runner at home on the next play as Manuel Sanchez beat the throw home, leading to a McWilliams RBI fielder's choice. Greg Minnich pitched four 4-hit innings, only allowing that one run. In the top of the 5th, the Orioles would extend the lead to 3-1 with a Scott Hoover RBI ground out after they loaded the bases with one out. The A's would tie the game at 3 in their half of the 5th. After Kevin Landis reached on a 1-out single, Steve Axe would knock him in with a double to the gap. Dan McWilliams would then bring Axe home and tie the game on a 2-out RBI single. With the time limit looming, the 6th inning would be the last of the game. The Orioles looked like they would go ahead in the top of the 6th. With 2 outs and runners on 1st and 3rd, Minnich lined a ball to right field, but the right fielder charged the ball and threw the runner out at 1st to keep the game tied. Ken Brittain led off the bottom of the 6th with a single, but would remain at 1st after a strikeout and popup. Ron Biser would play the hero, hitting a double to right center field, while Brittain raced all the way around the bases to score the game-winning run for the walk-off win.
Axe and McWilliams had 2 hits for the A's, while Zimmerman, Kevin Iser and Dan Webster had 2 hits for the Orioles.
