Brew Crew squeak by Rays in low-scoring affair
The Brew Crew struck first in this close game when Jeremy Gottsch hit an RBI double off the left-center field fence and scored on Justin Long's single in the bottom of the 2nd. The Rays finally got on the board in the 4th when their first hit, a double by Eric Yoho, knocked in 2 runs to tie the score. One out later, Steve Crone gave the Rays the lead with an RBI single. The Brew Crew took the lead right back in the bottom of the 4th when the first 4 batters reached base, capped by Mark Lomenzo's go-ahead RBI single, for a 4-3 lead after 4. The Rays would get 2 runners on in both the 5th and 6th but they couldn't get them home. The Crew would get an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th on another Justin Long RBI single. Chris Staub would allow a leadoff single in the 7th, but get the next 3 batters out to complete 3 scoreless innings to get the save. The Brew Crew's Gottsch and Long were the only players with multiples hits in this game. Both also had 2 RBIs.
