Viking edge A's in a game with more walks than hits
The teams traded runs in the first inning with the Vikings striking first on a Jose Vega RBI double and the A's striking back on a Dayron Galvez RBI single. In the top of the 2nd, the Vikings turned a single hit--Mike Freed's RBI single--into 4 runs with a hit batter, walk and sac fly with the bases loaded. Starting the 3rd inning, the Vikings put 3 of their 6 hits together to increase their lead to 7-1 on an RBI double by Erik Amspacher and an RBI single by Robert Wagner. The A's drew within 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th using 3 walks, 2 hit batters and 2 singles to score 4 runs. John Lawton had a 2-run single in the inning and the A's had the tying run on 2nd base but a strikeout got the Vikings out of the inning with the lead. Both teams threatened to score in the 5th, despite the lack of any hits, but the lack of that big hit kept the score at 7-5 for a Vikings win.
Of note, there were 6 hit batters in the game in only 5 innings, which may be a league record.
