Cardinals break open 2-2 tie with 7 in 4th
The Cardinals wasted little time getting out to a lead, scoring 2 runs in the top of the first, but the inning ended when the Colt 45s threw out a runner at home to keep it to 2 runs. The Colt 45s tied the game in the 2nd, turning a leadoff error and a pair of singles into 2 runs. It remained that way until the 4th, when the Colt 45s made a pitching change and the Cardinals greeted the new pitcher with 6 straight singles. A hit batter and 2 more singles later and the score was 9-2. Each team added a pair of runs over the last 3 innings for a final of 11-4. Steve Mercado picked up the win, only allowing 2 unearned runs and 4 hits in 4 innings of work.
For the Cardinals, Todd Racey and Jeff Kiesel both had 3 hits to lead all hitters, along with 2 RBIs and 1 run each. Kiesel also made a great running catch in foul territory in left just before he slammed into the fence. Carey Wertz and Ben Sheppard had 2 hits in the win. For the Colt 45s, Ben Keesey collected 2 of the team's 6 hits.
