Orioles win wild one over Diamondbacks
Doug Hays led off the game with a double and came around to score on an error with 2 outs to give the Diamondbacks the lead. They added to that in the 2nd when the first 3 batters reached on 2 walks and a hit batter, but the run scored on a 4-3 double play to limit the damage for the Orioles to 1 run. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Orioles cut the lead in half with an Andrew Stambaugh sac fly. In the 4th, Stambaugh would come through again with a 2-out RBI single to tie the game at 2. Neither team could score in the 5th and it looked like the 6th would go the same way; but, with 2 outs and a runner on 2nd in the 6th, the Orioles' bats would catch fire. A walk and a single loaded the bases for Randy Stambaugh's 2-run single to center field to give the Orioles a 4-2 lead. Curt Zimmerman and Greg Minnich would follow that with RBI singles of their own to make the score 6-2. The O's would need every one of those runs because the Diamondbacks rallied back in the top of the 7th. It looked grim after the Orioles turned their 3rd double play of the game to leave the bases empty with 2 outs, but the Diamondbacks alternated walks and singles with Marcus Glover knocking in the first run with a single and Travis Busler knocking in the 2nd with a walk--marking the 4th time Busler reached base on a walk or HBP. Bob Speelman Sr. followed with another walk to cut the lead to 6-5, but Greg Minnich was able to find the strike zone and induce a fly ball to left to end the game and pick up the win. Minnich was also the only player in the game with multiple hits, going 2 for 4.
