Royals & Vikings play to 8 inning tie with no runs in last 4

The Royals started off the game with a bang in the bottom of the 1st. After the first 2 batters struck out, seven consecutive Royals reached base (5 hits, 2 walks) with the big blow being a 3-run double by Andy Mumma, and they led 6-0 after 1. The Royals started doing the same thing in the 2nd inning, when they loaded the bases after starting the inning with 2 outs, but the Vikings got out of the inning unscathed on a ground out. The Vikings would start their comeback in the 3rd when Gary Blaylock's 2-run double got them on the board. They added 2 more runs in the inning with the help of a couple errors to make the score 6-4. Just as in the 3rd inning, Tim Steinhauer and Luis Delgado started a rally in the 4th and a Jeff Tomison 2-out RBI single knotted the game at 6. There would be no more scoring in this game, but there were a few more threats. In the Royals 5th, a leadoff single was erased on a double play, but then they loaded the bases with 2 outs on a single and 2 walks. The Vikings got another ground out to get out of this jam. The Vikings had traffic every inning after the 4th, but they didn't get a runner past 2nd base until the 8th, when a Delgado 1-out single moved the Manfred Man to 3rd base. Chris Caldwell induced a shallow fly out to right and a comebacker to keep the game tied. The Royals had a chance to walk it off in the bottom of the 8th, but Valentin Ramos snuffed out that chance by striking out the side, and the game ended in a tie.

The Vikings' Luis Delgado led all hitters with 3 hits. Tim Steinhauer and Jeff Tomison added a pair of hits for the Vikings. On the Royals side, Chas Chambers and Chris Caldwell both had 2 hits. Nick Collette and Joe Pecora each reached base 3 times, both having a single and 2 walks. Both Caldwell and Ramos closed out the game with 3 scoreless innings, striking out 11 between them (Ramos 6, Caldwell 5). There were 23 total strikeouts in the game, 13 by Royals' pitchers and 10 by Vikings' pitchers.
