Up 2-1 after 5, Colt 45s fire off 11 runs for blowout
These two teams spent the first 5 innings filling up the bases and struggling to score, with the Red Sox leaving 8 on base and the Colt 45s 12. The Red Sox scored first in the bottom of the 3rd, turning a 2-out error into a run on a Tim Scott RBI single. The Colt 45s would finally break through in the 4th, tying the game when Cory Metzbower led off the inning with a double and scored on Josh Knaub's single. Knaub would come around to score the go-ahead run on a Jay Metzbower single, but the Colt 45s would leave the bases loaded for the 3rd time in 4 innings. In the top of the 6th, the Colt 45s loaded the bases again on a single and 2 errors, this time with no outs. Brandon Beck would make the Red Sox pay for the miscues with a bases-clearing double and would later come around to score on an Adam Shaull ground out to put the Colt 45s up 6-1. They would give a little back in the bottom of the 6th when a Neil Werner double and an error would score on Jim Weit's 2-run single to cut the lead to 6-3. However, the Colt 45s would put away the game when 10 of the first 11 batters reached base in the 7th, resulting in 7 runs, and locking up the win ... despite leaving the bases loaded for a 4th time. As if on cue, the Red Sox loaded the bases with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th but a strikeout and fly out stranded the runners and ended the game. In total, 28 runners were left on base.
The Colt 45s' Brandon Beck and Greg Pomraning combined to only allow 1 earned run with 9 strikeouts. Josh Knaub had 4 hits and scored 3 runs, while Beck had 3 hits and 5 RBIs to lead the offense. Doug Kauffman and Jay Metzbower had 2 hits. For the Red Sox, Neil Werner, Tim Scott and Adam Lynch each had 2 hits, reaching base in 8 of their 9 combined plate appearances.
Last batter ... Colt 45s: Tom Thomas, Red Sox: Brian Stambaugh
