Down 7, Expos come back to win in walkoff fashion
The Royals offense started the game on fire when 9 of the first 10 batters reached base on 6 hits, 2 errors and a walk. Jesse Kling had the biggest hit, a 2-run single, as the Royals took a 7-0 lead before the Expos even batted. The Expos got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd when a misplayed fly ball to right field turned into a bases-clearing double by Rico Riccobono, then added another run in the 3rd when Ed Miller knocked in TJ Richartz after Richartz lead off the inning with a double. The Royals scored a run in the 4th after a Nick Collette leadoff double led to a Ricky Habel sac fly. The game stayed that way until the bottom of the 6th when the Expos tied the game at 8. The big hits in the inning were a Ron Lehman 2-run single followed by a Joe McLucas RBI double. With 2 outs in the top of the 7th, the Royals took the lead back with consecutive RBI singles by Steve Collison and Jesse Kling. The Expos got a run back when Keith Acosta laced a 1-out single to center. After a fly out, the Expos had the bases loaded with 2 outs when a walk by Lehman tied the game, setting the stage for McLucas' walkoff single to left field.
McLucas ended the game a perfect 4 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs, and also picked up the win by getting the last out of the 7th on a strikeout. Acosta, Adam Rausch, Lehman and Richartz each had 2 hits for the Expos, while Riccobono led all hitters with 4 RBIs. For the Royals, Kling filled the scoresheet, going 4 for 5 with a run and 3 RBIs. Matt Hayes, Collette and Collison each collected 2 hits in the loss.
