Indians break open 1-0 game with 4 in 4th and 11 in 5th
The Indians' Jarrett Witmer led off the game with a double and scored when Brendon McGirr followed with a single, but that would be the only run scored in the first 3 innings. The Indians offense got going in the 4th. After 3 singles loaded the bases with 1 out, a walk, sac fly and RBI singles by Witmer and McGirr made the score 5-0. Meanwhile, Ryan Chataginer completed 4 no-hit innings with 3 strikeouts to keep the Red Sox off the board, only allowing 2 baserunners on a walk and error. The Indians put the game away in the 5th. After a leadoff fly out, the next 11 batters, and 14 of the next 15, reached base to make the score 15-0. Ryan Thompson got the inning started by blasting a 2-run homer. Witmer and McGirr again had back-to-back RBI singles to account for the next 2 runs, then Chad Moser blasted a 3-run double and scored on Chaz Ruth's double. Jason Barmore led off the 6th with a single to break up the no-hitter and that led to the Sox lone run of the game on a Neil Werner 2-out RBI single. The Indians added 3 final runs in the 7th on a Kyle Lentz RBI single and, for the 3rd time in the game, Witmer and McGirr followed with RBI singles.
McGirr was the MVP of this game, going 5 for 6 with 4 RBIs and a run scored in addition to picking up the save with 3 innings of 4-hit ball. Witmer was close behind with 4 hits, 3 RBIs and 2 runs. Thompson, Rob Myers, and Lentz each added 3 hits to the Indians' 25-hit attack, while Moser, Chataginer and Cory Goshorn had 2 hits each. In all, the Indians had 8 extra base hits.
